Not to defend our lack of support for XP at this point (the next update is coming soon with many bug fixes for XP), but I want to say that there is no technical reason to remain on a 32 bit OS even if your main application is still 32 bit. As long as your processor supports 64 bit OS you should upgrade to it. Avid recommended 64 bit OSs, Adobe strongly suggested to use 64 bit OS and put more memory on the computer long before CS5 was out. A 64 bit OS runs much faster and less bug prone because it does not need to page memory as much (provided that you have enough physical memory of course). It is especially true if you are running more than one app at a time (which you always do, even if it is Explorer).

Graffiti 6 is planned for later this summer. In the meantime we are offering a crossgrade to RED 5 which has all the same features as Graffiti.

Can you tell me what computer/OS are you trying to play back from? It plays back fine in our testing but there maybe OS or player difference.

It sounds to that you have two separate tasks:
– create a clean plate by removing the walking person from the scene. This part can be accomplished with the BCC Motion Key filter. Make sure to roughly isolate the moving person with a rectangle or oval tool as demonstrated here:

the demo is done in Avid but the steps are the same or similar in AE
– Second task is to isolate a moving person and composite it on the clean plate. This is something that BCC Motion Key does not do. You may get close to this goal by using AE diff mode between clean plate and original but the edges are not going to look great. A BCC Matte Choker may be helpful here.

John, great point about Roto Brush, I completely forgot about it. Definitely something to try in step two. You will still need a clean plate from step one (if I understand the effect correctly).

As a plug-in company, we try to support every OS that the host application officially supports. In other words, if Host X supports OS Y then we try to support the same configuration. We know that Avid still supports XP for some legacy systems that can not move forward. Prior to the release, we’ve done limited XP testing and missed your problem. Our main focus has been on testing Win7. We now reproduced the problem in our lab and working on a solution. The problem is intermittent and not immediately reproducible, at least in our lab but I’m confident that we will find a solution for you.

Mike, if you want to generate animated previews of the library presets press the little button under main preview that has + sign in it. (Tooltips could help navigate too). Other than that, your library browser window looks normal.

Neil, our tech support team spoke with you and it appears that you are using Windows XP. Although we strive to support older OS versions, XP is now two generations old. We are looking at possible solutions for XP but in the meantime, you’ll have to use Avid FX which is essentially RED 4. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience. We’ll let you know as soon as the fix is found.
