Hi,

We have Davinci Resolve 9 running on a Mid 2012 MacPro – 2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core, 10.8.2. We’ve got a Red Rocket card which has been laying around waiting for an expansion box.

Currently setup is:

slot-1 – GTX285 (GPU)
slot-2 – GT120 (UI)
slot-3 – LSI7404EP Fibre Channel
slot-4 – DeckLink SDI

Am I to understand that in the mean time I could just take the GT120 and swap it for the RR? Would the GTX285 alone be ok for UI and GPU?

On that note, I am desperate to know if the improved 3rd party panel support will in fact fix the heavy latency issue that Avid Artist panel has with Resolve. It is barely usable as it is, while It runs like a dream with Apple Color…

Let me put it another way… What effect on performance would x8 have compared to x16 with the GPUs we plan on getting?

We have Davinci Resolve 9 running on a 2009 MacPro . Just got a Red Rocket card which we need to make space for.

Currently setup is:

slot-1 – GTX285 (GPU)
slot-2 – GT120 (UI)
slot-3 – LSI7404EP Fibre Channel
slot-4 – DeckLink SDI

We are looking at getting additional 3 x GTX580 or GTX570.

Between Netstor, Magma, Cubix and Cyclon which expansion box would you recommend Price/Performance wise?

Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if its an IP thing… There is nearly no lag at all when using it with Apple Color though. This and Eucon disconnecting every single day, even though I’ve set my comp to never sleep. Other than that its a great panel.

For future reference though, grading a project mainly for DCP I would have to set my Flanders to P3 and Resolve to Data levels, is that correct? That only applies if delivering DPX, right? What if needed to go back to FCP and ProRes for Neat Video NR for example? Would that result in crushing my blacks?

Also if wanted to make TV version is it just a matter of applying a P3toREC709 LUT and setting Resolve back to Video levels? Is such a LUT freely available or would i need to order one from Lightillusion?

What i find to work just as well is going to file/capture. It doesn’t work in Color or Delivery.
