the answer to your question is YES, you can edit 4K over ethernet, and certainly 4K over 10G ethernet (which is just using Cat6 cabling). Almost every shared storage company can sell you a system for under $15,000.
So exactly what is your question – who can do this for you – anyone can do this for you, except for your
district IT personnel. Any vendor you see here advertising on Creative Cow can make this happen for you – for $15,000 – and for less than $15,000 dollars.You can accomplish exactly what you want for the budget that you want. Just hire the right people to do this for you.

Hi –
there is nothing that you can buy. The theoretical bandwidth of 1G Ethernet is 125 MB/sec. In real life you are lucky if you get 100 MB/sec over a 1G connection. Without a 10G connection, you cannot get any greater than this.400 MB/sec is the TOTAL bandwidth available on your Synology box. Want more total bandwidth, buy a box with more drives in it.

While I am no expert in the sinology product line, it appears that you are doing many things wrong, including purchasing the wrong unit. The 1515+ is a 5 bay (not enough drives for 3 users reliably). It is a 1G box, and you say you are connected to a switch – this means that you are sharing all 3 computers over a 1G port – big mistake. You would be better off plugging directly into the 4 1G ports on this box, and assigning separate subnets. The 1515+ only has 4G of RAM, you should have at least 16. There is no option for a 10G port to feed a 10G switch.
Again, I am no expert in the product line from sinology, and I recommend other brands, but at first guess from 2 minutes of research, had you purchased the Synoloyg DS2015xs, you would have an 8 drive system with 10G ports that could go to a 10G switch, or at least a 10G uplink switch, to improve your bandwidth and performance.
So what do you do now ? I don’t know – you bought the wrong box.
Try getting rid of your switch and plug directly into the 1G ports (assign static IP addresses), and see if that helps. But with only 5 drives and 4G of RAM, I don’t know what will happen. This is not a word processing application – this is pro video, which uses tons of bandwidth.The DS1515+ is $709. I don’t know how you can have a working shared storage system for this price.

But yes, the LumaForge Jellyfish is wonderful, and the G-Tech GRACK12 is amazing – but how amazing for FCP-X, compared to the Jellyfish – I still can’t answer this, because I have not tried it with FCP-X (I just figured out how to get NFS to work on the GRACK12).Bob Zelin

It is April 2016. This is a stupid post.
I have just installed 10 Blackmagic SmartScope Duo scopes at Disney in Orlando today. They cost $995 each, they require NO computer, and they are wonderfully reliable. Are you kidding me – talking about a product from 2011 ? The SmartScope Duo is an incredibly reliable product that does EVERYTHING that you want (yes, 4K too) – waveform, vectorscope, audio meters, picture monitor. It weighs nothing, it requires NO computer (other than to do an initial setup or change what you want to see on the displays).Just STOP IT with ranting about products from 5 years ago. It’s over.

1) I was at SuperTCP in the upper south hall. Across from this booth was KeyFlow Pro. I was in the Super TCP booth for 20 minutes.
There was not ONE person in the KeyFlow Pro booth. Very sad.2) I went to dinner with my wife at STK the Friday before NAB. My wife started talking to two women at the bar who were going to NAB, with some camera company. They became Facebook friends. I went to this girls Facebook page, who was featuring the Lytro camera (the company they were with). “Who the hell is Lytro” I said to myself. Shows you how much I know. Talk about missed opportunity !

You can use a Facilis Terrablock 8D or an AVID Nexis.
Unity ? Are you kidding me ? That product has been discontinued for countless years now. And the AVID and Facilis are both CHEAP.

it has four 1g ports and 2 10G ports, as well as 1 Thunderbolt port that can be used for direct attached storage. Yes, if you configure the subnets correctly, you do not need a switch for a small workgroup
