You need to say what your services are, and then someone can say “I suggest that you do this”. For all I know, you are a wonderful chef, and are trying to open a restaurant, and want advice. I will drag this completely OT (and I apologize for it). So who are you blaming – the doctors ? When my mother in law kicked the bucket, she was hospitalized for 3 weeks (some intestinal thing) – she was old. We got her Medicare bills in the mail (which was paid for by her pension/insurance – thank God). The hospital (not the doctors) billed her $350,000 for 3 weeks. Now you tell me, exactly who can get away with billing an individual for anything for over $100,000 per week, and still kill them and get the money. If you give me your broken (camera, edit system, etc.) and I bill you $1000, and it still doesn’t work when you get it back, will you pay the bill ? Do you think the doctors make $100,000 on this ?
This is no different to me than the independent sports players, that see the team owners making countless millions, and they want some of the money. It’s the fans that suffer from the insane ticket prices, because the owners are not going to take less money – the players want more, the fans will pay for it, not them. With that said, even the super bowl is cheap compared to anyone’s health insurance.Bob

I have no answers here, I just want to complain. I love when people want things done for free. When I got back from NAB 2016, I received my health insurance bill from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida. I have been a loyal member in Florida since 1999, and am never sick. Never hospitalized. Then Obamacare came along, and the plans changed, but because I have been with BCBS for so long, I have been grandfathtered in, to my existing plan (I can see whatever doctor I want). It’s jut me and my wife – no kids, and again, I am never sick.My bill was (sit down for this) – $21,408, and we each have a $6000 deductible. I don’t have any other expenses that even come close to this expense. I (we) are paying for the folks that are not as fortunate as we are, and the only people who are NOT paying are the executives at Blue Cross Blue Shield. Of course, it’s not fair to yell at them, because Atena, United Healthcare, and all the others are just as guilty. Those insurance exec’s need their new Lear Jet’s (just like we need our new video gear), and someone has to pay for it.
And you want exactly WHAT for free ?

Im amazed that you can get a 4K signal out of the Decklink Studio 4K on the HDMI output !
I can assure you (since I have suffered thru this), that if you get the Teranex Mini ($495) you can see the 4K HDMI signal reliably on your HDMI monitor without plugging, and unplugging. It works reliably.
Now, you say “but it’s supposed to work, without me having to buy anything else”. What can I say.

If you have very little money ($1500) you can purchase the incredibly wonderful QNAP TVS-863+ which has two 1G ports, and one 10G port build in (just add drives). And if you want a thunderbolt DAS connection that can be also used as a wonderful hi speed NAS, you get the QNAP TVS-871T, which is about $2700 (just add drives), and you get TWO 10G ports, four 1G ports, 8 slots for drives, and of course the thunderbolt looping ports. The performance on these boxes are incredible.
As for hardware raid, I have historically been using hardware raid products, from ATTO, Highpoint, and Areca. All wonderful. But of course, they cost money. Software RAID products are inexpensive (SoftRAID, owned by OWC) is teriffic as well.
As for your Dulce – that was the first time I ever used an Areca hardware raid controller, and how I discovered Areca. It’s a great product, but like countless companies, it’s hard to compete, and market your product, and with all the competition out there, they could not keep it afloat. But it was always a great product. As for the other old dogs, like Ciprico, Rorke Data, etc. – these are OLD products, and your boss has to get used to the fact (and I am sure he is used to it if he has been doing this for a while) that all this junk becomes obsolete. Very quickly. And then it becomes a boat anchor – just like all the $50,000 Sony VTR’s.
So when we discuss wonderful new products like the QNAP TVS-871T – let me assure you that QNAP will probably no longer manufacture it or support it 5 years from now, and everyone will start to cry “wah, I have all my data on there, and I need to expand it, and no one supports Thunderbolt 2 anymore”. That’s our business. I am cranky because I deal with this stuff EVERY DAMN DAY – all this expensive stuff (and cheap stuff) becomes obsolete. This is how most of the companies in our industry have collapsed over the years. From buying expensive stuff, not getting their return on investment, and then they are screwed. And companies today support their products for shorter times then ever before. And the companies with “lifetime warrantees” go out of business, so at some point there is no more support.
In our lovely business, you are doomed to KEEP SPENDING MONEY over and over and over again, and keep seeing your investment become obsolete, with new faster cheaper products coming out every year.
You just have to keep ahead of the flood waters. After a while, it gets you angry. I have been doing this for a long time.Bob Zelin

YOU CANT and you should NOT be running a company – you should GET A JOB and work for someone, save up some money , and buy the right equipment so you can do your job properly.If you cannot afford a Toyota Prius, you cannot be an UBER cab driver. If you can only afford a pawn shop $50 guitar, you cannot play in your local bar on the weekends to make $100 bucks. I don’t care how much you love music.

1) take the 863+ 10G port and stick this into a Netgear XS712T switch ($1500 bucks).
2) plug ALL your computers into the XS712T switch.
Now everyone – 1G or 10G will have access to the TVS-863+.
easy easy easy. I install QNAP’s all day long –
If you don’t want to spend the $$$ on the XS712T switch, assign static IP addresses to all your computers (all different subnets), and plug in your 10G computer to the 10G port, and you now have two 1G ports that you can connect to two of your 1G client computers.
And you are done – three computers – no switch.
easy easy easy.
And if you now say “what the hell is this moron talking about – I have no idea of how to accomplish what he is saying” – well, you know what to do next.

exactly what kind of incorrect advice are you giving here.
Apple XSAN server cannot support AVID shared storage support, or AVID Bin locking.
Exactly where do you get your information from.You can use the new AVID Nexis (which has replaced ISIS), or a Facilis Terrablock 8D if you want to spend very little money, or solutions from Studio Network Solutions, Tiger Technologies, Small Tree, ProMax, EditShare, Archion. Please don’t give out incorrect information. I love Sonnet – I use their products all the time, in almost every installation, but this product with XSAN cannot support multiple seats of
AVID Media Composer. It is the wrong product for this application.Bob Zelin
