APFS formatted volumes are not recognized on OS X 10.11 Yosemite and earlier.
You can share APFS formatted volumes using the SMB network file sharing protocol. The AFP protocol is deprecated and cannot be used to share APFS formatted volumes.so don’t expect to use APFS on your “old” brand new Mac running anything but Sierra. Which means you will be using new computers for this from Apple. And no utilities that exist that I can see that will let you mount a APFS volume on a Win PC.

you may say “finally” but you forget that more than 50% of the customers have legacy issues here.
It is not clear to me that APFS will be the default file system for Sierra when you initialize a drive, since this article clearly states that AFPS at the moment cannot be your boot drive.
It clearly states that AFP is no longer supported. Well, right now with SMB, there is a massive SMB issue with
“signing required” which slows down any SMB connection – even on a 10G network – to ridiculous slow speeds (in El Capitan OS X 10.11.5), and requires manual removal, or change to disable required signing over an SMB connection.
IF you have 20 computers, this is a huge pain in the butt.And again, they state that AFPS is SMB. Well, what about NFS ? Is this no longer supported ? How will FCP-X be handled for shared storage, unless you force people into iSCSI (because no one is going to do XSAN in 2016 – 2017).
And with all of this, I can certainly guess that this is the last nail in the coffin for FCP 7. So while people (like me) will say “tough luck boys, go out and buy some new equipment, and learn some new software” – the reality is that people want compatibility with their old stuff – and APFS and Sierra may kill all of this.
For those that are unaware, this is the end of legacy Mac Pro’s from 2008 and 2009 – only 5,1 Mac Pro’s (and of course 6,1 Cylinder Mac Pro’s) are supported.

no sir – there is no fix for this.
I have found this to be a common issue with both the R380 and R680 cards from ATTO.
In a RAID 5 configuration, the second you lose a second drive, you have lost all of your data.
I have learned my lesson the hard way, with this card, and when I have to use an ATTO RAID controller, I always
create a RAID 6 array. I realize this seems crazy with only 4 drives (I usually have 8 or 16 drive arrays), but
what you are experiencing is a very common occurrence with both R380 and R680. To my knowledge, there is no fix.What is sad (and you will find out soon enough) is that when you take the “faulted” drive out, and test it independently, you will probably see that there is nothing wrong with this drive. The ATTO card, for whatever reason, just declared this faulty during the rebuild process. I have unfortunately gone thru what you are going thru now, many many times.
Future lessons that I learned the hard way –
1) backup your data to other drives – always (or LTO).

It appears that the Samba Core Team identified this, and worked with Microsoft to stop it. Apple picked this up, and in OS X 10.11.5, it now requires
SMB signing, which appears to be crippling the performance of SMB, even on 10G networks.If you are using SMB to connect to your server, DONT UPGRADE to 10.11.5

Netstor has the 16 bay and 24 bay that require the ARC-1883ix-16 or ARC-1883ix-24
Maxx Digital has the EVO 16 bay with direct thunderbolt 2 connection.
Highpoint WILL have a 16 bay, but it will be thunderbolt 3

Here is what it comes down to. Everyone wants everything to be fair. Life it not fair. Some amateur has a top Sony/Arri/RED camera, because his family bought it for him as a toy (to keep him out of trouble) while some hard working pro is still trying to pay off his Betacam package loan, and can’t afford a new system.
Doctors are charged a TON of money to go to med school, and pay for malpractice insurance, and there are only so many smart guys (there are only so many good editors, graphics guys, DP’s, motion graphics artists, etc.) But everyone wants this to be FAIR, and it’s not fair. The doctor has to say at some point – “I owe 1 million dollars between my school loans, and malpractice insurance, and I must have 2 people doing my insurance billing – I have to charge at least XXX”.
And the poor demand the same medical treatment that everyone else gets. It’s not fair, but it’s impossible – the doctors are not going to go bankrupt, just to be fair. Now, are the hospitals, insurance companies, and pharma companies taking advantage of this – OF COURSE THEY ARE. We (the editors, the graphics people, the audio guys) are the doctors (I know – it’s a stretch !)- and the networks, ad agencies, etc. are the insurance companies, hospitals. They want their huge profits for “nothing” (hey, they found the clients) – and “we” (the working guys) have to keep lowering our rates, and finding ways to buy equipment, so we can keep making a living.There is no way to make it fair. The poor (you know, the indi film makers) will always suffer – no matter what the plan – because WE are not going to work for almost free, so they can make their indi movie, that no one will go see.
