This is a terrifying post, as this gentlemen does not understand the difference between the RF “F” connector, and the RCA composite video output of his VCR. HOW will this gentlemen know enough to download the new I/O control panel to enable the TBC Framesync functions to get the VTR to even lock up? HOW will this gentlemen know enough to use the Audio/Video Setting Capture Preset to select the correct setting to accept analog audio and composite video? You know he will have issues with analog audio levels coming directly from the VHS into the balanced inputs of the I/O.

SIR – I URGE YOU to contact your dealer, and ask for assistance and training on configuring this product, and if you bought it from a mail order house, I URGE YOU to hire someone who understands audio and video to come in and help you – at least in these initial stages. This is only the beginning of your perils into the world of professional video editing.

Hi AJA !

I have a request. I have just confirmed that Tiger DOES NOT come with Allume Stuffit, so there is NO WAY to decompress SIT SITX or HQX files.
Tiger supports decompression of zip, gzip, tar’d gzip, and bzip2 files.

Will AJA downloads, including AJA Kona System Test be offered as these native files, so we don’t have to purchase StuffIt for Tiger?

I know the exact job you are talking about, so you should page me tomorrow to discuss this.

But here are the details. There are assorted SATA arrays on the market that will do uncompressed HD-SDI. They have assorted issues that I do not wish to discuss here, but they do work, and they are cheaper than anything else on the market. Part of the recent “fixes” has been a new firmware update from Sonnet for their 8 port cards (you need 8 drives striped at RAID 0 to do uncompressed HD with SATA).

The other solution is to use an established RAID, like the wonderful
HUGE U320RX, which will do uncompressed HD effortlessly. There are other products from ADTX, Medea, Rorke, etc. as well as the Apple Xserve RAID that will do this as well. But I know you want to save money, and you are very interested in SATA. If you want to be a pioneer, I can tell you what to get OFF LIST, becuase I don’t want you to bad mouth me when you find that it might be a little unreliable.

drives – even with the issues.

Hi Rob –
if you want to use the DVCProHD codec, you can use the storage that you own right now. But if you want to do uncompressed HD (and no one in Orlando has that requirement right now), you will need a fast array. We already discussed the “big” SATA arrays at NAB, but if you want an off the shelf solution right now, that is guaranteed to work, it will cost you more than you want to spend. I know your market – work in DVCProHD, and forget about it – buy nothing.

Hi Bob,

Sorry to say, and contrary to what others say, the AJ-HD1200A will NOT assemble edit. Try as they might, it is neither frame accurate or capable to sync up to an editing system. I have been told by many that the way to get back to the machine from FCP HD is to “Print to Tape”. But unfortunately until Apple supports TC back to the VTR, you can only “crash” record hoping to get close to TC 1:00:00:00.

You may want to contact Apple directly or go to a chat room like Creative Cow.net.

The 1200A deck CANNOT perform ANY edit function, sorry to be rude (block caps) but this is a recurring issue. Editing on tape requires very specific hardware issues such as flying erase heads, servo offsets etc. Just because you can “crash” record into a tape doesn’t mean it is an edit. If you recorded the tape into which you “crash recorded” (same VTR used for both fuctions), you will have some semblence of format integrity. However if you try to “edit” into any other tape, chances are that you may get high errors, concealments, and servo unlocks at each edit point. Your client won’t like that….! Bad ju-ju….

Please, for the 483rd time, the 1200A doesn’t, can’t and never will edit!
