Cat DV and Axle Video have been well established for many years. What’s the problem ?
You load it on your Mac, point to your server, and you have a DAM. Countless people do this.
Do you mean, how come Synology can’t offer you a free one from their App Center ?And I never answered Chung about his question, but it really bothered me (because everything bothers me these days). Your company has 1000 people that need to access the data, and no one at your company have ever been to an NAB or IBC show ? Really ?

as Oliver has pointed out – there is competition, but people don’t want Windows 10.
The HP Z4 can hold an NVidia RTX-2080ti, and is much less money than the expensive Z8.
And of course, custom builds, like the Puget Systems computers are also much less expensive, and are very powerful machines.So yea – it would be great to see a $3000 Mac Pro – OR it would be great to see a $6000 Mac Pro as long as it included a 1TB SSD and a single AMD Radeon Pro Vega II GPU card. But for your $6000 you get nothing.
For me, it’s going to be up to the third party hardware manufacturers – and what Apple will and WILL NOT let them do (based on that T2 chip). Can we stick in OWC RAM? Can we stick in an off the shelf AMD WX8200 ? I assume that countless companies will make “Promise like” metal drive enclosures, so you can just get your own internal drives (SATA or SSD) and just pop them in. But will this work, or will the hardware be blocked by the T2 chip. Same applies to assorted I/O cards and 10/40G cards from AJA, Blackmagic, Matrox, Bluefish, ATTO, Sonnet, etc. Will Apple hold us hostage, forcing us to buy “Apple only” – or can we just stick anything in here – just like the old Mac Pros.
What I currently find “entertaining” is the YouTube influencer’s videos. Everyone has a loaded 2019 Mac Pro, with TWO of the new Apple monitors (and 2 stands) – and they are shooting their videos with a phone. So there is no way that these people actually purchased those expensive systems. It’s a commercial. An “influencers” commercial.
We will see – I am still excited about the 2019 Mac Pro. NAB 2020 will be a good show (I hope) because of this.

it would be easy if you simply went to the https://www.qnap.com website, and looked under compatibility for the TS-1685.

well, first let me say that I am falling in love with the 2019 Mac Pro. And I have never personally had my hands on one (just via remote over the internet).
But I just found this –

which is a supported card in the 2019 Mac Pro.
You put four 2TB Samsung EVO 970 NVMe’s in there, and you will get over 5000 MB/sec bandwidth.
8K will be child’s play. The card is under 400 bucks, and each 2TB EVO 970 is about 400 bucks, so for $2000 bucks you get completely insane performance for 8TB of storage – which is not a lot in todays world, but for a special project – even a large project – well, it’s amazing.AND because I have been so tied up with QNAP and Synology shared storage systems, and got so discouraged when Apple screwed up the server product in macOS 10.13 – I kind of forgot about using a Mac as a server. But because of the Sonnet card, I just RE tested file sharing over a network with macOS 10.15.2, and it works great – once again, with no permissions errors with multiple users.
So everything is starting to fall back into place again. This is going to be one crazy NAB show (for the first time in a long time).

I just installed my first 2019 Mac Pro for 730 Eddy Studios in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
They are my first customer with one of these, and they are as I write this installing
Adobe CC. It’s connected to the QNAP via 10G for storage. I am anxious to see their results, as
they are going to start testing as soon as Premiere is loaded.Mac Pro has a single Radeon Pro Vega II with 32 Gig VRAM and 96 Gig of RAM.
I will report back !

yes you can use the adaptors. 6 drives won’t even come close to Thunderbolt 2 speeds, so go ahead ! Does the RAID array make that much noise ? I can’t believe that. You can keep it on the floor below the iMac Pro.

is Derek and Bob Wills the same person, or did you kill him and put him in the closet with the OWC RAID array ?
You have a $6000 iMac Pro, and a nice 6 bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID array, and all you are concerned about is putting the RAID in your closet ? Is this a real question ? You are willing to drop from 40Gb/sec to 10Gb/sec so you can keep it in your closet ? Do you do this for a living ?

It’s simply the ZFS operating system, instead of a linux OS with EXT4.
It will mean nothing for a small QNAP. If you have an enterprise QNAP, and have the ability to blow away all your media and start from ground zero to reinstall the OS, it “may” provide better performance. We will see.Bob

you can always email me privately for support for things like this.I believe that you own two TVS-872XT systems, not a 873XT.
Can you not get into the QNAP QTS web gui ? Can you not ping your QNAP ?
Or is this just a problem with Qfinder Pro ?Your QNAP connection should be with a static IP, but you can always use a free program like
LanScan or Angry IP scanner to find the IP address of your QNAP that you are trying to connect too.Feel free to contact me. I will help you.
