On the Mac, ProPrompter. Smooth as buttah when scrolling. My biggest beef with prompting apps is smooth speed changes. I don’t want any bumps to distract the talent from the words, as usually my talent… isn’t… they’re C-suite execs. Then there are some apps that can’t even scroll smoothly – those just go right in the trash. Note: ProPrompter released version 5 some time back, and it was a horrible update to the supremely excellent, stick-a-fork-in-it done version 4.0.3. So I simply stick with 4.0.3. No idea if the devs “fixed” 5.x/6.x, as I’m totally happy w/ 4.0.3, so keep that in mind when testing/buying. They’ll send you 4.0.3 if needed (that’s what I insisted, lol).

On iOS, the app to use is iQue. This is our new go-to, as the screen is a glass-mirrored iPad, controlled remotely via iPhone. The key here is to use dual-screen output from the iPad; the Ipad screen for the talent, and Lightning->HDMI to an external monitor (TVLogic, SmallHD, etc) for operator view. Otherwise the operator needs to stand almost shoulder to shoulder with talent in order to see the screen. Awkward. iQue remote control is smooth and pretty fast to navigate (of course not as fast as a laptop). Editing text… meh… maybe better if you controlled with another iPad instead of an iPhone.

I feel your pain on prompter software, I’m pretty demanding on it, and the stuff above should make your headache go away.

Clients bring us graphics projects to execute, beyond the standard production pipeline.

We’re 2 partners that are 80% cross-functional. We produce/shoot/edit our own projects, together, individually, often using freelancers to support us when we’re on different projects at the same time.

Majority is C300MKII, using a variety of lenses, and loving our new(ish) set of Xeen primes. Also use a 5D on a variety of motion mounts, a GH4 on a Defy gimbal, an Inspire 4K drone, C300MKII on Steadicam, C100 as B/C cam, GoPros. For other jobs, older cams that still function perfectly well where appropriate; Panasonic AC-130, AF-100, HPX-500.

Scott, David, et al…. I’ve tried the Color Finale demo, and I’m having trouble seeing what the fuss is about. At least in placing it as a viable “close-enough” alternative to a tool like Resolve. (Caveat – that may be my mistake right there – perhaps folks aren’t really positioning it as such.) It seems to be that there’s just not enough precision/flexibility in the controls. Especially in the realm of masking the effects. Yeah, I know that masking can be achieved using X’s built in selection tools, but those are crude compared to Resolve. eg; often I want to use luma and/or chroma controls to mask a CC, and a color-picker just ain’t good enough.

I’m not dismissing Finale – it looks like a great “step up” to keeping CC inside X, and I am all for that! I CC the majority of what I shoot/edit, even if it’s just a tweak. Sometimes it’s dramatic, sometimes it’s a touch on the gamma, whatever, LOVE doing inside X. When I shoot log, and really want control, it’s off to Resolve. But the roundtrip overhead and the added hassle during revisions… makes me think about it 1st when in preproduction.

Guess what I’m looking for is a Resolve plug-in. 🙂

Well hang on, are these Sony MDRs? Beats? Bose Noise Cancelling? Full cans, in-ear, open air? Analog or digital preamp? And what about the surface they’re laid down upon? Glass, wood, a mousepad? And how about ambient noise…. is the neighbor mowing the grass? How about the party in 3A, is that still underway? OMG- the HVAC… it just kicked on!

Sigh. SO many unanswered questions.

Simon, when you code it for PPro, make sure it requires at least 4 TRACKS to make it work. ‘Cuase you know thems PPro folks odn’t want nuthin’ what don’t got no tracks. 😀 So mo’ tracks = bettah.

I thought that when you 1st expand audio, then apply trans, collapse audio, it doesn’t effect audio.
