    Hi Chris,

You might try changing your Format Options in the Output Module of your render queue. I know that mine defaults to the Animation Codec, which can be a bit of a space hog.

Try setting your Format Option to H.264. Also check to make sure that (in Render Settings) your field render is set to off.

There are probably some other ways to achieve smaller file size, but this has always worked for me as far as maintaining best image quality.

I checked google too, and found nothing.

My guess is that the client misheard and will probably be asking for a .tif sequence.

Thanks for all of the helpful responses.

Looks like some additional gear is on my horizon… just when I thought I was at the end of my spending spree.

Can anyone expound on why the sync would be so far out? I’m seeing anywhere from 8 to 30 frames sync difference (upon relaunching FCP) between audio and video. There doesn’t seem to be any consistency in sync loss.

    Thanks again,

    Bob

Had a very similar problem this weekend. I tried everything and this is what solved the issue for me…

In the clip settings tab in log and capture, turn off the audio preview.

Sounds ridiculous (like a major bug), but it worked for me.

Good luck and please let me know if this works for you.

    Hi Jerry,

The message says “validating audio data”.

I am capturing at 32kHz 16 bit, although 32Khz is actually 12 bit. Maybe that could be at issue.

It is kind of strange that in the 48kHz capture mode everything works fine.

    one last note…

I am capturing audio at 32kHz from a tape that was recorded at 32kHz.

If I change my capture settings to 48kHz the validating audio window does not show up.

    Thanks again for your responses,

    Thanks Don,

I’m off my system (after 10 hours of capturing) and will try the 32kHx 4-channel tip in the morning.

For now, and who knows how much a mess things will be when I edit and export, I found a simple tip on the Cow.

Someone posted with a similar problem and the response was to turn off audio preview while capturing. It looked a bit ridiculous as a solution, but I gave it a shot and it works like a charm.

I don’t know if this is a bug with FCP but it certainly raised my eyebrows after hours of searching for a more technical explanation.

    Thanks again for your response.

Tape audio sounds fine when listening to deck through headphones.

Originally I was set to 48kHz and had the crackling problem. That’s when I discovered the tapes were 32kHz and switched capture settings. The problem didn’t get any better or worse with the switch.

I’ve also tried a different firewire cable… with no improvement.

    Thanks Herb,

I’ll be going with RS 422 deck control.

The deck I’m using may or may now have an SDI card installed (I think it’s an optional cost). Depending on what the client is willing to pay for, I may use the RGB connectors. If there’s too much loss in signal (vs. SDI), I’ll talk them into spending a little more money.

    Thanks Mark,

Sync between the cameras shouldn’t be an issue. We cut a pilot a few weeks back on Autodesk Smoke and the timecode was accurate across the cameras.

I’ll definitely be going with my BM card. Time permitting, I’ll try the firewire to see what comes up.
