You could use the Sony Chroma Keyer to mask out the green screen if that’s what you want to do.

In pan/crop, you right click on the image, and set the option to “Match Output Aspect”. That should insure that there are no black bars even if the video itself must be cropped to reach that objective. I regularly do this since I shoot HD 1080i and p, but render to a DVD resolution. That also allows me to adjust which part of the HD image is displayed in the render so that I choose what I think is the best composition.

I guess I was lucky when I bought my supply. BTW, mine were sold as Tayo Yuden/JVC. Do you have a link to something that says Tayo Yuden production lines are shut down? IOW, could JVC be operating the original production facility?

I would try reducing saturation somewhat to reduce the bleed.

The ADVC unit is much better suited for capturing video from sources like VHS. That said, if the DVDs were burned at home by a computer, there is a distinct possibility that the DVDs have degraded due to the passage of time. When I burn, I usually make two copies using two different brands of DVD with one being Tayo/Yuden Gold.

I suggest that you stop using shorthand. There are several 480 and 720 options in video. They are not all the same. Is it NTSC or PAL? Is it 720 x 480 or 720 x 576? Is it NTSC or NTSC widescreen? No one can really help if you are not specific about the details. Also, what are the pixel dimensions of your image, and what is the image’s format? All of that is necessary information.

I’ve been very pleased with systems I bought in the last few years at Micro Center. You pick out the parts to assemble the system, and can either build it yourself or, for a modest additional fee, they will build it for you. They will also provide technical support after the purchase. If you are not sure of your components, they will recommend a reasonable choice. I have built two systems now based on their advice, and information I’ve picked up on the internet. Both systems are still doing very well, and I am very happy with both purchases. I think you get a much better computer than any manufactured machines that I typically see in the stores.

It could be that your graphics card is too new. I am seeing that it was designed for Win 8.1 64 bit, and there are some known issues with it. I suggest running without gpu support, which has always had limited applicability, until Sony has a chance to catch up with the technology.

There is an even simpler way if all the names are the same. Simply copy them back to their original location. Vegas will adjust for changes in the files, and you are good to go. If you want to save the original files, copy them to another drive or directory before you overwrite them with the new files. I do this all the time because I use Rx-3 as my sound editor, and it does not run from within Vegas.
