You can download and run a program called MediaInfo which will provide details on the internals of your video file. Just google mediainfo.

Although you told us what you are rendering to, I don’t think you told us what format your source video is using. What does MEDIAINFO say?

My most recent camera is a Canon HFG 30. Although it doesn’t meet all of your specs, it has been a very impressive camera for a modest price. It has things like 20x optical zoom, but lacks things like XLR inputs. What I have been most impressed by is its focusing system. It includes face detection, and will lock onto a subject if you simply touch the view finder to show it the subject. It also seems to have a clearer and better image in terms of exposure and color than my older XH-A1 which is a pro level camera. For audio, my main recorder is a Zoom H4N which accepts XLR input. I rarely use the audio recorded by the camera for anything other than synching the video from multiple cameras. Thus, the lack of XLR is not a problem for me.

There is a setting on the split screen control (use the pull down arrow) that will bypass all FX. If bypass is selected, then pressing the button will bypass the FX. The FX will be bypassed no matter where it is applied in the project. If the button has no effect whether on or off, then the problem is not coming from FX.

Be sure that your project settings are 1080 x 1920. Then, in the pan crop window, click the right mouse button and select “Match Output Aspect”. If your video image is now cropped, that means that your 4k video’s aspect ratio does not match the aspect ratio for 1080 x 1920. There is no way to overcome that limitation unless you are willing to allow letter boxing (i.e. the black bars) to be used. However, what you can do is manage what portion of your 4k image shows up in your video. You can select the best views, and adjust the view as the video progresses by using keyframes. I use this technique all of the time to fit HD video into the SD format which is required for a DVD.

It sounds like you have several things going on at once. I suggest that you stop everything. Then, add items back one at a time. After each addition, test to see if everything works OK. If it is OK, add one more thing. Keep adding things back until one finally causes a problem. Report back as to exactly what that one thing is.

Obviously, turning off GPU support is allowing Vegas to run. This will not affect your editing although it sounds like your CPU is not quite powerful enough for what you are doing. It is this CPU slowness which is causing you to decrease the quality of your preview, and that lower quality is, in turn, causing the glitchy performance of the Chroma Keyer. Assuming you can complete your editing, your render should look fine although it may be a bit slower without GPU support.
