Thank you Steve for your reply. I had rendered a small project before I posted this question and let Vegas handle it and thought/hoped that the SD portion would have been better (it appeared a little ‘soft’). I wasn’t sure if I should mess with the field order or not. Thanks again.

I am using VegasPro10e and with the “=AVCHD 1920×1080-60i” template, the max bit rate in the drop-down box (custom option) for the Sony AVC/MVC is 16Mbps. However, with the “=Blu-ray 1920×1080-60i” template the drop=down box (custom option) the default is 16Mbps but it offers a selection of up to 26Mbps. This last one is the one I used (tried to use and got the error msg). I finally just used the first template shown above.

Thank you John for your reply. If I may ask you an additional question: this veg file contained some SD clips along with AVCHD clips (majority). It was mentioned in another thread I started that I could modify the Sony AVC render to 26Mbps. When I attempted to render this VegasPro 10 gave an error msg. to the extent that an ‘unknown’ error occurred. Is this due to the SD clips or AVCHD clips that I used or the fact that I combined the two? Hope you can help.

OK, I managed to find a BD-RE disc and successfully burned the two different renders (Mpeg2 & Sony AVC)in the same DAR project. To my ‘old’ eyes, they both look the same.

I loaded a sample file into “MediaInfo” and it reported that the “Maximum Overall bit rate: 28.0 Mbps”.

Then at the bottom of the screen it reported that the “first video stream was 23.5 Mbps”.

So if I customize the Sony AVC, increasing it from the default 16 Mbps, can I/should I increase it to the maximum of 26 Mbps.?

I really don’t mean to beat this topic to death, I just want my family videos to look as good as possible.

Stephen: I have always followed your hypothesis also about the higher bit rate, however, I have seen quite a few posts recently stating that for Bluray you should be using the Sony AVC/MVC render option.

Dave: I didn’t mention the MainConcept AVC because the only option I have (VegasPro 10) is for iPod devices (320×240 video & 640×480 video).

“Rule of thumb is that a good AVC encoder will have twice the coding efficiency of a good MPEG-2 encoder. So that 16Mb/s Sony AVC will compare to 32Mb/s MPEG-2.”

If this is really true then I have been wasting my time rendering to “MainConcept MPEG-2(.mpg .m2v .m2t mpa) – Blu-ray 1920×1080-60i, 25 Mbps video stream”

To further muddy the waters, if I check the ‘clip’ properties within Vegas, it just says that it is an Mpeg2 transport stream.

The ‘clip’ properties within Win7 explorer identify the same clip as an AVCHD video.

Thanks for the additional clarification. So far I have found only two files that were blank/corrupt. Out of the hundreds on the drive, I can live with those odds. The files still have their original sequential numbering (0001.avi,0002.avi- in their individual folders) it is just that they are all of my grandchildren from 2000 to 2010 and when I named the folders, I didn’t have the foresight to put a date in the name. Oh well, I learned a very important lesson!

Thank you for your reply. That is just what I am facing now. I was hoping that there might be a utility in existence that might help but after searching various websites I fear that I am in trouble concerning the recovery of the ‘recording’ date.
