    thanx!

i was wondering how to select the card in the prefs, and then it occurted to me that the selection was pretty simple, just highlight the choice and exit the prefs

    and now it works!

    thanx again!

    thanx DRW!

yeah im just a rabble rouser at heart! luv to mix things up! kinda like johns (or pauls) uncle in “a hard days night”

its a bit of a curve from edit to here. the truevison gave us about 10 choices of com[pression, all AVI,
    now i have 1000!

however, to apples credit, i got the basics down pretty fast.

and somebody said in response to an earlier post about raids, “and above all else, have fun!” that works for me!

until my boss springs for an FCP guru to come by, i may pick yer brain from time to time over “edit withdrawal” stuff. (if thats ok with you, i wouldn want to pick your brain uninvited!)

    thanx again

December 28, 2005 at 2:56 pm in reply to: newbie question…whats up with nesting?

    thanx boyd

i think i got it figured out.

it seems it was opening a “copy” of the nest because i had changed my main sequence settings between cutting in the first part and the second part, so fcp made a version of the nest to try and match the changes settings….i think….maybe

anyway… i was a bit under the gun so it was a bit of a blur. i usually dont post until i have thouroughly ruled out operator error etc.

i need more time with the book

    thanx again!

    thanx guys!

yeah, this sounds like a bit of a limitation in that many times my out point (or my inpoint) are expendable for the sake of the motion or the opposing mark

btw, my solution has been to move the clip to the next higher video track (if there is nothing else on that track) lock all the other tracks, make the speed changes, look at it, noodle it around til i like it trim the out or in and drop the clip back in.

ps i will take a look back for the earlier thread, but when i did a search for speed i got everything but… oh well

    Hi again

just to close things up, i ran media manager to recompress all my HDV footaqge to DV and then reconnected it. the stuff plays fine in my DV sequence.

I did have to re cut in all the ex hdv shots, as they had scaling and some fliters going on.

I suppose there is a way to kill all the filters and such across a range of clips, but ill get to that

thanx again, and i’ll probably be back!

    thanx!

its actually about 50/50, but we are looking to finish SD 4×3

since the only other flavor is dv, is that waht i want my sequence at? (ands is there a difference between apples dv and kona dv?)

    then:

can and should i recompress all my HDV clips to DV using the media manager?

OR if everyone changes their mind and goes for 16×9, whats the most efficient codec to convert the dv and hdv, Apple intermediate? dvcpro hd?

i heer you about planning your project in advance, and i will in the future, i just got stuck on this one so i am hoping to rescue waht i have without having to recapture

as far as offline online, all the footage is at full rez except stock and stills. so what does that say? we have a terabyte of storage, so it made sense to dump it all in at dv/hdv via firewire

again thanx a bunch for your replies, i be happy to repay favor somehow!

    thanx!

ya know, if ya cant have fun…whats the point?

so i grab the compnent out on the hdvc deck, and bring it through my kona lh as 1080i, but waht about vtr control? can i still use firewire just to drive the deck? isnt there a latency issue between firewire and a card?

do i need an interface between rs422 on FCP and lanc or firewire on the hdv deck?

or do i just say the heck with the tc, and grab all the hdv stuff “wild” ie without tc?

    thanx again?

thanx to both of you for your replys!

we have a mix of SD and HDV sources, SD through a kona LH and HDV off of a sony MV10 or whatever via firewire. (could do HD through the kona, but only have the HDV gear for HD….wish i had a varicam!)

I have heard that its better to transcode/convert the HDV to either DVCPROhd or Apple Intermediate prior to editing, which is good for the cpu but takes up more drive space. In this case i guess we go with the latter, the 4210.

    thanx again!

December 1, 2005 at 5:26 pm in reply to: modify scene take desc etc over range of master clips

    Hi Bob

(David Weiss will know that i do this sometimnes, where i talk to myself)

If you Option Click on any of the fields in the browser or bin, you will get a pop up window listing all the other entrys in that column, which you can apply to a single clip or a group. i dont know if this is in the manual

    hope this helps
