please please please tell me you unstuffed your test files and they worked ok? I may be old school, but i get nervous about compressing video files (as opposed to just stuffing w no compression)
i would hate to see you get burned

September 14, 2006 at 3:04 pm in reply to: size chart for still pics in PS that are to be used in videoandrew
1. take a frame from the video you want to put type over an export it as a pict. bring it into photoshop, select all, copy and open a new document. the new doc will be the size you need for video. it may not look right because of pixel aspect ratio, but it will be the correct dimensions
2, google it.. try “video formats explained”, “video aspect ratios explained”, “high def” etc
there are tons of resources for just this, even here at the cow

thanx!
“undercutting RAM essentially drags performance at every level of operation, especially RT performance, while slower processors will primarily be a drag on rendering”
thats waht i wanted to know! what aspects of FCP are affected by CPU power and what aspects are affected by ram size.
and based on that info, i agree that more ram would be better. thanx
ironically in the time it took to make this post and reply, 2 third party companies announced RAM for intel macs, at a lot less money thatn apple wants, so now i can have both!
thanx again

“So, they always could be zipped/stuffed, but to no benefit.”
grqanted it wont save you any space, but it makes files easier to deal with.
By zipping a file (with no compression) you get around many of the “file name length” issues that still plague computer technology ie some mac file names/charachters cant be seen by other types of computers, such as web servers and pc’s.
zips also have some error correction going on as well, so it helps to avoid file corruption
and we find that a zipped file will ftp more reliably than the original, (especially if the file is in a folder that gets zipped, as opposed to just zipping the file)
so there are some benefits

hey mort
I found a program called mac hatcha (love the names of some of these programs) which allows you to split up big files into smaller chunks. in this case 2gb (its kinda like win RAR)
what i do is take all the stuff i want to save and stuff it to a zip file with no compression, then use machatcha to break up the zip file. i can get 2 mac hacha “chunks” onto a dvd, and i fill up as many dvd’s as i can
I found mac hacha by doing a web search for file utilities. I think there were several out there, and one or two could probably make it easier by makin 4.6 gB chunks, just the right size for a dvd
hope this helps

Sometimes when i try to “overwrite an angle” as fcp calls it, the multiclip does get wierd, throwing the other cameras out of sync n such.
you can try and figure out wahts going on, or just make a new multiclip, and start using that instead of the one with the tc break.
if you cut in this new multiclip from the point of the song where the camera breaks, you will be ok to the end of the show, and you can still use the first multiclip from the beginning to that point.
hope this helps
