i think there is a panasonic protocol, as well as rs232 protocols, in FCP which may be simpler and not too confusing for the poor idda pioneew…:)

i dont know where the avid emulate mode is, maybe under device control?
we have a similar one off dvd situation in that we have a lite-on dvd recorder in an adjacent machine room. i have no way to trigger it, so i actually have to bounce the remote control IR signal off the machine room door! (luckily its painted silver). I patch the video out from the lite-on to my 19″ NTSC monitor, and when i see the numbers start, i hit play on my timeline.!
However, i usually do a print to tape to our UVW 1800 betasp, then make my dvd from that. I have yet to get a dropped frame or an unrenderd dissolve from a beta tape! we have 2 lite-ons and i can bang out 2 discs at once when i go from tape (the dvd and beta are in the same room)bee eph

you said you have an avid? i believe Avid has the ability to “emulate” a vtr, so that you can control the avid from another RS422 equipped device, like a linear edit controller. have you tried that?

your not the first to try this. pioneer states that their rs422 interfeace is to Control a tape deck, not be controlled for editing….
THAT BEING SAID
you should be able to master to tape, which does not require preroll or editing capabilities like edit to tape. (we old guys call this “crash recording”) and i believe FCP can send a “roll in record” signal down the 422 to your device
under “audio video settings” is a tab for “Device Control Presets”. You can duplicate an existing preset, such as Sony RS422, and edit the settings. I see a check box for “auto record during PTV”. by experimenting with these settings you should be able to make a preset that works. Dont forget to duplicate the settings to keep the original preset safe
you could also edit your show to tape (assuming you have a vtr like that) then control the VTR from the Pioneer, insuring accurate starts and stops AND freeing you to edit while the discs are being made!

Actually you can speed up audio and downpitch it in FCP
once you speed up your clip, apply a pitch filter to the audio. You can then downpitch your audio back to normal
I had a formula for just how to do it, since the audio pitch is measured in semitones. do a search here for “Semitones to percent”
you can always do it by ear as well

I dont think it was meant to plug HD or anything like that. Ithink it was more to say that you are seeing stuff that has never been shot, and thats possible because of the technology…for example, all the helicopter stuff would never have worked if they had to land evry 8 minute to change the mag. with HD they coulkd roll for hours at a time, changing tapes in the chopper AND have good looking pix
BUT
waht i really found annoying was all the commercials…..i counted like ten spot breaks in a one hour show..it was about twice as many as i could stand the only redeemer was the 60 for discovery, that was sweet. (maybe thats why they needed to seel so much air time…they had to pay for that spot 🙂

thanx mon! I will look up bonolabs and check them out. we will probably stick with a local xfer house, and will finish to video, distributing on DVD
