Mastering directly to Pioneer PRV-LX1 DVD recorder?
We have a PRV-LX1 dvd recorder with an RS42a port. I’m trying to find a way to master directly to the deck from Final Cut. The information from Pioneer states that the record start function is supported in RS422 control, FCP will recognize the deck and gives the “VTR OK” prompt in the ETT window, but both the insert and assemble icons are greyed out. I’ve also tried mastering to tape and also print to tape, but I haven’t been able to get the deck to go into record remotely. The control on the deck is set to RS-422 interface and the deck is set to “remote” operation. But still no go.The deck is in a separate machine room and connected via SDI from my Aja Io. To get a tight cue on the DVD requires two people. One to hit the record button on the deck and one to play the timeline in FCP. There are times that there just aren’t two people available for this mode of operation. We bang out MANY DVD’s for client approval and this method (real time to a deck) is far faster in the long run than authoring a DVD thru software. No messy housekeeping to delete unused assets either.
I’ve Googled the situation and found a user group for Avid that listed the same problem while trying to do a Dightal Cut to tape. It was claimed that it should work, but no one seemed to be able to get it to perform as promised. I tried it with one of the Avids and it won’t work either. The Avid DID recognize the deck however!
Anyone out there had any experience with this particular combination? It sure would be a great time saver.
