Hi dave
FCP Has a great titler! Its called Photoshop!
and Synthetic Aperture has a plug in called Echo Fire which gives you video out from photoshop via firewire, or any of the FCP capture cards, like kona
Live type isnt so bad either
hope this helps

its a free utility that lets you move a bunch of markers easily, at least more easily then one at a time.
hope this helps

the days of actually handing or biking or fedexing a client something physical are over. You know it, I know it, But the DVD doesnt know it.
If i could compress a full screen movie directly to a streaming server, it saves me at least 3 minutes per finished minute to make approval copies, and i dont have to worry about a fingerprint making the dvd skip, i would find a way to get clients to go this way.
and yes this is why apple sez whats a blu ray?

Buy what works now. if you are coming from another NLE, especially PC, you will NEED the summer to get up to speed on the Apple OS as well as Final Cut.
besides, what you buy now has been “shaken down” enough that most of the issues have been either resolved or work-arounded (nice verb, huh?)
hope this helps

the Pana card reader isnt smart enough to talk to a drive by itself. you need software to move the media off the cards and onto storage drives. ie, you have to connect the card reader to one of the 2 notebooks:
one more thing
Bob Zelin posted hear about constructing a cheap 2 system shared storage array using Gigabit ethernet. He is a respected editing and hardware guy, and he posted it less than a month ago
BTW
you sure you want to be doin all this? it can get kinda hairy, and it sounds like you are kinda new to this. Dont let me discourage you, but sometimes its better to delegate stuff that you are not comforatble with, espacially if its in a mission critical application.
hope this helps

are ypu PC users doing effects and such?
Natively, macs and PC’s can share drives if they are formatted FAT32, however this presents a 4gB file limit. the easiest way around this is to save your files as Pict or Tiff Sequences ie a series of still frames. you can save the audio as a wav or aif
the PC user can import these into any application, and sometimes make a real time playable file from them.
other ways would involve special codecs and archiving and thats just nuts.
if your pc users just want to view the stuff, make DVDs!
hope this helps

hey alfred
I know this is frustrating especially because both FCP and Compressor are supposed to do this.
the only way, and I am only thinking out loud here, that you should get this 4th frame repetition is if something is off speed or something is broken
are you running FCP 6.0? or 6.0.3? try upgrading if you havent already
did you trash your preferences?
what happens if you bring the files into compressor directly, and convert them from HDV to DVCPROHD, ProRes, or even Uncompressed but dont change the frame rate, so at least you are dealing with full frame material and not long gop HDV.
I can tell that you seem to be very thorough about all this stuff but, just cuz we are all human, double check everything.
The only other thing i can suggest is to repost your queston rephrased so its get noticed. something like “29.97 to 23.98 doenst pull down correctly”
also, notice that , at the top of the forum, Ron and Walter have started to put together an FAQ. If you open the discussion thread you will find a lot of contributed links. maybe one of those links can help.
good luck, and let us know what happens
