search the tutorials and other info here. search the forums for Final cut as well. search the websites of larry jordan and ken stone. the subject of nesting has been gone over like bad road on a hot day. there is a lot of info, and quite a few strong opinions.
some people quicktime export each nest, thereby guaranteeing changes in all iterations of the nest, although thats more of a pre-build or sub build than a real nest.
If i want a particular section of my timeline to repeat later, or use in other versions, like a clean master or a recurring bumper, I nest it first, but then export a native qt and cut that back in
to avoid “corrupting” or changing somonelse project, make a copy of that project and work on the copy

Hi
from your post it seesm you are dealing with a couple of issues, the first being that you have no easliy identifiable relationship betwixt the DVD’s and the “original films”
maybe i am not fully understanding your workflow, but the second issue seems to be that the DVD’s are probably made from a videotape of some kind, DV you said?
so you may be only able to make your show from edited video masters, rather than re scanning film negative, as trying to trace back through the video masters to the original films is gonna be very time consuming.
now if the dvd’s were made from a videotape OF A FILM PRINT, like a 16 or 35 mm optical sound print, then you can scan that print or sections thereof using the methods people have suggested.
However if a dvd was made from a videotape which was made from videotape transfers of film,(tape to tape editing) you should endeavor to seek out the edited video masters, and use some form of digital enlargement/enhancement to integrate the material into your program.
hope this helps

“just let go of that part Bob”
so should i let go and use the Weiss? uuh i mean force?
“What is your objective?”
is SATA or SATA2 on a single drive (yes i mean 7200 rpm, my duh) faster than fw800?
whats eSATA compared to SATA and SATA2?
can you chain SATA drives? or is it one port per drive?
looking into using SATA2 drives as “project” drives, being able to move a projects’ media from one system to another quickly, and hoping will get more dv50 or dv100 streams than with FW800.
(I think you once suggested or endorsed this approach, rather than trying to do SAN or NAS)
I have 2 g5 and 1 intel mac pros, so i need 2 PCI cards and a PCIe
card. I already have an 8 port SATA card on a raid, using 4 of the 8 ports, but i think if i want to go SATA2 i need a SATA2 card.whats yer thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

I dont know wahts more bizarre, the fact that there is a test to see if your video is cut so fast it will trigger a seizure, or that MTV uses the test on the clips before they air them.
so does this mean that “MTV style editing” is no longer so fast it will cause a seizure? If so, what is? “Men In Black trailer” style editing?
there are some shows on food network that may fail that test

beats me? I was gonna say how compressor is the way to go etc etc, but i guess i interupted myself again!
I will add that if you export a quicktime movie, either self contained or a reference, you can use that in compressor and not tie up FCP doing encoding
hope this helps, and i also hope this goes through!
