For what we do that is all we need, we do use at least 10Cf cards on a shoot however,I can only speak from experience. With other Canon Camcorders we use other types, however, our experience tells us not much difference , except price.Two years use is not bad however with still high charge capacity.

YES it is about PE4,

I release now that there is a 4GB limit on a 32 bit application, you have confirmed it. And that is the cause of the issues. And , PE is not a 64 bit application, and as i said I will now go to CS5 and ignore PE 9. Your input is appreciated, thanks.

The old PE 4 will burn Blu-Ray as H.264 and mpeg-2 as well ? ie., from a 1920x 1080 HD timeline.

I appreciate what you say, and yes, it is unlealistic to expect it to handle H.264 efficiently. I thought I would try it as Premiere Pro 1.5.1 could not. Low and behold it did process it and can even write/burn Blu-Ray DVD ‘s . But, to use it to edit was a slow process, but, it does and easily converts the H.264mov out of the Canon 5D mark II to avi using the Media Encoder to process in Premiere Pro’

I just wondered why too many clips caused an issue with “MEMORY” ?

Well David,

The XL2 is great, but, heavy. The out put of the little Canon HV40 (tape) and is similar ( 1440 x 1080 Anamorphic)matches the Sony’s. Ever thought of the Canon 5D mark II, a hugh range of interchangeable lens, Image Stablized out put is 1920 x 1080P @38mbps not 25 mbps as per others which is professional still. But, you may have editing issues with the H.264mov out-put , if you do not have Premiere Pro CS5

As far as i know the XL-2 is not an HD Video camcorder ,but, SD 720×576 PAL Widescreen 16:9 capabilities, the difference between the two is big.

Don’t use Final Cut Express my son uses iMovie for all his professional work, not even Final Cut Pro. We have been using the Canon HV20 & ( 2 Canon EOS 5 D Mark II’s at 1920x 1080p HD)for 3 years as a video camcorder as well as a VTR to archive to Pro tape using Sony Digital Master PHDVM-62DM as there were evidence of microsecond drop outs using consumer tape. We have never had the problem you describe, but, we also use Adobe Premiere Pro and there is nothing sinister there.

For smooth running Canon do recommend 1/50 or 1/60 we have followed this for two years and it does the job. I have noticed most of their camcorders are at around 1/50. it does improve the look especially when horizontal panning.especially with a Canon 5D mark II

Hardly overkill , We use SanDisk 8GB 60mb/s * 400x , even the Extreme IV UDMA 45MB/s 300x are good, and we use 10 of these. Do not try the ULTRA II it is too slow. The jellow on panning horizontally is caused by too fast a pan and maybe a bad video card in a slow computer. It no longer occurrs using Canon IS Lens preferably the Canon EF 70-200mm which according to Canon Australia has a better anti-stabilizer to handle faster horizontal movement although the EF 28-135mm F3.5 is also an excellent choice, we use it hand held nearly all the time , the Canon f2.8 25-70mm L Series and NO IS is too heavy.

No, I shoot in H.264 mov at 1920 x 1080p @25 fps PAL and have done for two years, the stills are sensational in RAW and processed in Canon Digital Professional, and it is stunning quality, editing is an issue , you may need CS5 + Adobe Spec System ?

Buy Canon only , they last for a long time , two should be enough, they are electronically coded and are read by the camera for re charging etc. False economy with others ???????We have used these cameras professionaly for over two years, nil problems.
