Short answer: your caution is justified with fluorescents — it looks bad (don’t ask how I know). The 1/100ths solves the flicker probelm but may cost too much light in an environment where you aren’t in control of the lighting.

April 18, 2006 at 11:58 am in reply to: XP software for dual boot on new Intel Macs

[Ben Holmes] “In order to install XP you need a FULL version of XP home or Pro INCLUDING service pack 2 (SP2), so not even a full older version (SP2 is around a year old or a bit longer) will install.”

I’m confused here. Do you mean that I need to transfer the license only from a PC that is less than a year old? Or, as was posted later, do you mean that I will just have to go through umpty-ump updates with an older full version?

[David Jones] “Down and dirty yourself a sheet each of the Plusgreen gel range for your hot lights, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, Full.”

    Let me understand:

BEST is to “poison” the fluorescents with Diva lamps.
OKAY is use Plusgreen on the tungstens with the regular, spiky fluorescents.

    Right?

Good analysis. You asked for suggestions.

With video, the shooting ratio is almost immaterial.
With video, you can catch mistakes right away (with proper monitoring).
With film you have to budget for dirt fixes.

But raw stock smells good, and you are right that there is a certain prestige to film, although this is a rapidly diminishing factor and may impress us insiders more than others.

    very funny.

but does anyone besides Ty have some good nominations for “non-rap, non-hip-hop, pre-song chatter?” There must be someone who has collected some of these on the web someplace.

    [Frank Nolan]
A cable that has been unplugged 50 times! How can you say it hasn’t been moved that much?”

I should have been clearer — this was a snake in a rack; only one end was unplugged, and when it was, it was left right next to the input on the mixer. The other end is in a rack. That one is a real mystery.

[Andrew Shanks] “I have had real issues with v3 of primatte within After Effects 6.5”

Thanks Andrew — I will follow your advice. I thought the latest ver of Primatte was 2.1.
