September 26, 2008 at 4:26 pm in reply to: can i still capture DV through firewire?

I do have the latest drivers, Running FCP 6.0.3, the first time i did not quit FCP when disconnecting the io, but afterward i did quit and then restart without the io connnected and i still cant capture through firewre… i ended up scrapping that panasonic deck and just using a JVC HD deck and capturing through HDMI.

September 26, 2008 at 3:37 pm in reply to: IoHD and JVC BR-HD50 using HDMI

We jsut got our ioHD the other day, and i we too also own two BR-HD50 JVC decks. I am about to capture a long-format dvcam tape through the JVC deck and just noticed this post. I’ll give it a go, but i agree with you about the component. The main reason I dont wanna go analog is because I hate having to make sure my audio levels are set correctly. With HDMI everything is transferred digitally and i dont have to worry about running a bunch of audio cables in and out of the unit.

We also own a convergent design HDMI-HDSDI converter, so I will also test to see how that goes as well.

You wont have any problems. The only time there is conflict is if youre using the kona hardware on version 11.x with both me100 and final cut studio. but the software only m100 will work fine

  • must be a driver problem… i cant get final cut studio to output any video either, although i can hear audio coming through

August 8, 2008 at 5:12 pm in reply to: Media 100 suite wont load?

[Floh Peters] “The new version 12.7 does use the “standard” Aja Kona drivers, which are not included in the installer. You can download the Kona drivers for your board on the Aja website.”

wow, does that mean that we can use the hardware by final cut studio and media100 on the same system now?

April 9, 2008 at 4:23 pm in reply to: 12.5 is out!

no HDV on any laptops, yet, but it appears that media100 converts the HDV signal to uncompressed or compressed codecs, depending on the speed of your machine. While it seems that native HDV ingestion is not possible, its actually kind of cool that it can convert the HDv signal to a number of codecs in real time, saving you from having to buy a HDV/HDMI to SDI converter.

here is a summarized breakdown of the new features from the installer:

The following functionality is new to Media 100 Suite and Media 100 Producer Version 12.5
(Note: Some features are product specific).

HDV Acquire: Version 12.5 provides support for acquiring from HDV devices while connected to the FireWire® connection on your computer. (*Please note HDV system requirements below)

Multiple Audio Channel Input: Acquire multiple channels of audio from a supported device.
Batch Acquire Channel Audio- Batch acquire multiple channels of audio from a supported
    device.

Track Mapping Audio Editing: Remap audio tracks to different audio tracks in edit clip mode.
Optimized for Intel Based Apple Computers: Support for the Mac Pro® “8 cores standard”
    Apple Computer.

Support for Mac OS 10.5 Leopard: This software has been optimized to work with Mac OS 10.5 Leopard. Mac OS 10.4 Tiger is not supported with this release.

I have never tried to render out in mjpegb in SD- that should do the trick. thanks floh.

It’s absolutely incredible, I feel fortunate to personally witness media 100 expand its codec compatibility along with the rest of the industry, but I could only imagine what it must feel like if I knew nothing and had to learn from scratch now about all the different resolutions, codecs, and pixel aspect ratios. There is a lot more to learn now than there ever was

good point, I guess I was just used to not using it from the old m100i days… is there like a number or preset or something in AE out there that compensates for the setup? I know the m100 downcoverter works really well, it does a great job of managing the different colorimetries going from HD to NTSC.

I’d be interested to hear your feedback. We are currently using the S2VRHD as a portable xserve raid alternative, and, despite a rocky start due to a bad SATA card, all is running well.

No complaints about the S2VRHD, it does 10 bit uncompressed like a champ.
