version 12 adds multiple progressive modes, so there are a bunch of resolutions to select from.

I do know that the HD Suite hardware is capable of handling 2K resolution files, but it has not been implemented into Media100, and I am unaware when they plan to do so, if they ever do.

your videos look good. you should apply a crop to your cleaner movies to get rid of those black borders that surround your analog video sources. you wont see it on AE renders, but you’ll definitely see it if you digitized anything analog through m100. you never see it on a TV set because of the underscan that hides it. computer encodes will show every pixel so make sure you do that. It can be done in one step in cleaner… just apply like a 10-14 pixel crop on whatever sides need it the most. your videos will look much better.

ok, i have been away from the office for the past few days and unable to troubleshoot the drives until this point.

I was told by my peers that the system was crashing. there was some confusion in the definition of “crashing” and it was instead just getting realtime playback errors occuring when there are no items to render.

did some tests with some an HD project, ProRes(nonHQ) on a g5 quad with 4gb ram. I get playback errors when playing off the RAID, but it plays fine off an external firewire drive. I have to think the problem lies with either the caldigit raid or the arrangement of the cards. I was getting problems with the AJA card in slot 3, caldigit in slot 4 and even with the AJA in slot 2 and the calidigit in 4.

i guess the only thing i have not tried is the AJA card in slot 4 and the caldigit card in 2 or 3.

aja card is in slot 3, still getting realtime errors. acquired data via dvcprohd and prores, still same result. im beginning to think it could be the drives, but i dont understand why bc they are formatted with JBOD for maximum speed. I have hd projects that play fine off the internal drives, so any other suggestions?

what is the M100xfer codec you’re referring to?

We purchased episode pro and it didn’t work at all. this was back when media100 was still in 11.5, i believe and episode would not work at all no matter what codec i digitized in from m100, reference file, self contained, whatever. Still hoping to find one program that i can make all the conversions and formats with ease. The newest version of Apple’s Compressor is good but you still have to purchase the flip4mac plugin seperately in order to use it. And you still cant use the M100i or M100HD codecs without compressor misinterpreting the RGB values.

M100’s support of Apple’s ProRes codec seems to be working fine as an online quality, compressor-“able” codec to work with. I’m quite satisfied with even the non HQ-ProRes image quality when compressed to MPG2.

flip4mac wmv makes great quality clips with lots of options, you can then use it with compressor to do handle batch lists. i like using cleaner too, its pretty easy to use and can be really efficient.

I’ve never had bitvice, from what i heard, it rocks , but now you can just work in an apple codec instead of m100i codec in your project and now bam all’s good in compressor.

also, there needs to be a way we can batch export timelines from m100. seems so easy and can save a ton of time for various applications. (exporting mxf to AE and rendering from there is a workaround if you’re really in a pinch)

Just don’t get Episode or Episode Pro… it simply does not work with many and most of the basic codecs like motionjpeg, DV, windows media, and more. it wouldn’t even get to the decompression part and not even open the clip. i paid full price for the Episode Pro and asked for my money back. it was awful.

we use hdmi out of our JVC deck and directly out of our little sony HDR-HC3 camera. Used in combination with the convergent design connect MI, its an excellent solution for digitally capturing HD from non HD-SDI capable devices. You get embedded audio too with HDMI which is a big plus. If i’m not mistaken, i believe it can carry timecode as well, but i’d have to check up on that. i know that most nle’s dont support that function anyway.

i dont switch user accounts, but i do frequently access other machines via network and the only thing i do is keep all my m100 project, timeline and bin files in a folder on the root directory of the internal hard drive, not on the desktop or in a user folder.

    Macintosh HD/Projects/M100 project folder/M100 project name…

I’ve never have had any problems with m100 following this file organization structure. It should be ok, since all users have access to the root directory on the hard drive. again just keep all project files out of any particular user’s home folders.
