Thanks for the info we’ll give it a try, but for the record Sony told us it cannot be done this is why we didn’t look any further the two options they proposed didn’t actually label the clips, see below:
    “Bob
Sorry for my delay in responding to you.
Currently you can not disc label directly in the camera, however here are two other alternatives
Label the disc in PDZ-1 either before or after your shoot, following a format operation if before your shoot
Format the discs in the studio before you go out, right click on the Mounted disc under MY COMPUTER and Rename.
This can also be done on the MAC when you mount the disc.
Do a properties on the mounted image on the MAC desktop and type the name there.
    Hope that helps”

Thanks Tony, I do have the firewire and the sdi option, I wonder if I can get the video to go SDI (better quality?) and the timecode Firewire. I know the 1200A cannot insert edit, we’re just trying to get the time code to start at 58:30 so our program comes up at 1 hr. TC., Is there a way get timeline timecode out my Kona 2 SDI ?

    thanks again

Bob, sorry for the confusion but I did say my source was s-video and I was looking at a YC breakout cable, if my source had component I would certainly use it but it does not. When Chris mentioned he was deciding between the LH and the AJA IOLA, I thought that I would share my experience. As you know better than anyone the Kona LH does not have the firewire issue and it doesn’t offer s-video. I think it’s a great choice if you don’t need the mobility of the IOLA and s-video. I do like this little IOLA box and it doesn’t have issues with the the PCIe macs out now. My one question is, will the breakout cable (mentioned in the above thread) be an improvement over the s-video. ? The goal for me is to get away from DV 25 and capture DV50 I love that codec.

    I found it at markertek.com S-Video to Y &C breakout, mo.# (SV4-2B-6). I haven’t tried it yet but I believe it will work

Thank you, great feedback, would it make a difference to go component rather than s-video ? my aja IOLA doesn’t seem to have a good s-video out. I have my component feeding my beta. I’m thinking of switch, this new IOLA for an LH since I might not be going s video can I then feed the monitor SDI/decklink box to dvi ? It’s getting pricey and right now all i’m doing is SD 16×9 ??

    Thanks

Thank you, We’ve done some tests and I think we are going for 1080i it seems to have a lot less bugs with the Kona 2 card
appreciate all the feedback and codec advice we’re going to need it !

    Hi Gary,

Actually the interlaced content looks great going to 720P the Kona 2 is doing a good job with the image it’s just the timecode issue, yes we are running the latest drivers from Aja they even emailed me the new beta, the decks are configured from a router and locally as well. Running FCP 5.0.2 also QT 7.01 tried routing the SDI direct to the Kona and then also to through the i/o

As I said in the post we did try the 1080i setting DVC Pro HD it does fix the timecode issue

I did notice the file size of DVC Pro HD 1080i is the same or even slightly smaller,

Gary this is perfect for you….if we produce graphics 1080i (mostly after effects & lightwave) will the file sizes and renders be longer than 720P ?

I was told (at siggraph by Apple) not to render in the DVC Pro HD codec but to use the animation codec than transcode using QT ? Also my 3D lightwave guy is on a PC.

    Thanks, Bob
