I have been very impressed with Belkins Pro serie of UPSes, bought several at CompUSA on sale afte years of using only APC (which are very good).

Do you truly need to power those Rokit monitors and the Mackie?
Most people just use a UPS to get time for an orderly shutdown in case of a power failure.
If so, you could do OK with the largest UPS you can find at say Staples, or CompUSA if you live near one.
Note that UPS boxes are rated in VA (Volts x Amps) because that’s a bigger number than W (Watts) which indicates how much power is actually used.
You can add upp the VA ratings for the various units you have and see if you can make do with an 1100VA unit, which is still not expensive.
There are mail order companies specializing in UPS boxes, but then you have to pay for shipping which can cost as much as a Staples UPS.
You could also use multiple UPS boxes for the G5, the external drives, etc.

Ouch, I misunderstood what you wrote.
Apple can certainly be sneaky, and this could be part of a tit-for-tat with Adobe because they put such an extremely low priority on the Macintel port.
It would seem hard to believe that Apple would have been able to put together an AE killer in time for NAB though, and I would have to think that Adobe will change their minds and accelerate the AE port.
Sigh.

At least it looks like you’ll be able to use AE plug-ins in FCP on a MacBook Pro, see this COW thread.
I also made a personal bet that AE will be running on MacIntel much sooner than Adobe initially indicated (I bought a MacBook Pro).
There were several things going on outside of the limelight that made me think this was a reasonable assumption (but there are of course no guarantees).

I’m just praying that when FCP gets a Universal AE interface (API), it will be of a more recent version that can also support at least 16-bit output. Isn’t the current AE API from a really early version of AE?

I love creative ways of letting people know the error of their ways, much better than threats, lawsuits, etc., and in my experience more effective too.
A few years ago I found that a competitor had just copied some of my teaching materials. Instead of raising a ruckus, I made sure that they got their hands on a phony piece that looked really really good (at first glance :O), so they photocopied and distributed it immediately to their customers. I then called some of their key customers and asked them to check some basic facts in the materials they had just received, and they were totally in stitches from laughing so hard… (I even had to do something similar in a court case eight years ago…).
But the modded eBay photo beats everything I’ve seen in this vein!

P.S. The whole thing reminds me of the movie Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), with Steve Martin as a conned con-man, very very funny.

That could explain why they didn’t have a live demo at their SIGGRAPH booth.
Still odd that companies that can afford any tracker would choose it if it was so unstable.
Perhaps it is one of those products where certain parts are rock stable, and everything is fine as long as you don’t try to use the rest (seems to me there are quite a few programs like that today… :O).

How does PFHoe compare with SynthEyes 2006 1/2 for $399?
It seems that even some of the largest Hollywood post outfits are using this program.
