Apogee Duet.
Superb audio quality, well thought out everywhere.
2x XLR w/48V, 1/4″ headphone jack, line outs for studio monitor.

Get Digital Heaven Loader, it handles all conversion issues and lets you drag and drop just about anything into FCP, even from iTunes.
I got it after reading a review of it here on the COW, and found it to save time in my workflows.
Digital Heaven also has several other useful tools for FCP editing, including a lot of freebies.

The gamma shift happens in the conversions between the “YUV” in FCP (technically YCbCr, but that is such a mouthful) and the RGB used in Color.
The Sheer codec was a pioneer in getting this right, it’s just amazing that it has taken so long for it to come to light elsewhere.
Someday soon the last TV engineer will be laid to rest, and grateful (for the end of an era) video editors will put the last remnants of interlaced and YUV video in the coffin with him, with a heavily garlic-garlanded silver cross through the whole thing, plus three rows of industrial rivets around all edges of the coffin, plus unbreakable chains all around, and to be on the safe side, dropping the package into burning thermite (usually a reliable source of 4500F/2500C when you need it).
I hope nobody here gets the idea that I don’t like interlacing and YUV…

The default gamma has gone from 1.8 to 2.2.
I’m right now adjusting a lot of old projects for the new world, sigh.
At least with 2.2, the footage will look the same on Macs and PCs, thanks to having the same gamma.

Wratten 47B, aka SMPTE Blue.
A Lee 3″x3″ 47B polyester filter is about $14 at B&H or Filmtools.

What Photoshop setting did you use?
Especially pixel dimensions (not “dpi” which has no meaning in video)
Did you start with a vector file such as .eps?

No-brainer between those two.
The 17″ MBP has a very decent GPU, the screen is a gorgeous 1920×1080, and the eSATA connection blows even FW800 out of the water. I use a FirmTek 2EN2 enclosure with this; compact, high performance and “unbreakable,” but there are other choices.
If you go MBP, make sure to get the matte screen, the glossy is great if you forgot to shave in the morning because you won’t have to look for a mirror.
I’ve seen these 17″ MBPs go for $1995 at MacMall recently, no reason to pay more.
The Mac Pro would be a better choice if you need to use internal cards for SDI capture etc. (the MBP can capture HD-SDI via AJA and Matrox boxes of course), or just need max. performance for heavy post work.

Open it in QuickTime Pro and check the properties.

I had the same problem with a Decklink card, same fix worked.
