Are you running Encore on PC or Mac? I ran into the same issue and found that Encore CS-5 and CS-6 on Mac has the option for “Do Not Transcode” in the drop-down next to the media, while Encore CS-5 on PC does not. I have not used Encore CS-6 on PC. All my 5.1 .ac3 files are DVD & Blu-ray spec-compliant.

I’ve had issues both on PC and Mac exporting from Avid to Sorenson Squeeze using QT reference files. Exporting a regular QT file solved all the issues including incomplete encodes.

You can work in Photoshop Extended and animate your elements using the tools you already know, or work in After Effects or Motion.
I prefer to create animated graphics in After Effects. You will find many of the tools to be familiar, and this software has abilities far beyond Photoshop.
There are a large number of AE tutorials here on the Cow, which will get you far beyond beginner techniques.

You can open multiple files in one step using the open command and selecting the desired files. All the open files are available in tabs at the top of the interface.
I’ve not tried to open 30 files, but I do regularly open 5-10 at once.

Try displaying the ruler in Photoshop, and then alter the display percentage in Navigator until one inch on Photoshop’s ruler equals one inch on a real ruler.

Thanks Walter. I had no idea you could reinterpret the frame rate directly within Premiere. I’ve just started using Premiere with the introduction of CS-6 and have not found all the capabilities lurking under the hood yet.

I doubt that your G-drive can convert Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 to feed your VTR. Try going Firewire 400 through the entire chain.
If you send bars & tone from your computer directly to the input of your VTR (no G-drive), does that work?
It’s generally not good practice to have storage and input/output on the same Firewire port on any non-linear edit software.

If you recorded with an HD video camera, your footage most likely already is 23.976fps. No conversion is necessary.
Assuming you do actually need the frame rate conversion for a film or true 24P video workflow, the easiest way is to bring the footage into After Effects. Right click on the asset in the project window, then select “reinterpret footage.” Specify the new frame rate. AE will play the frames at the new frame rate without altering them or creating any visible artifacts.

Just navigate to the location set in DVDSP as the build folder, then take the HDDVD_TS folder you find there and drag it to the trash (or recycle bin). Then you will be good to go. DVDSP will put a new VIDEO_TS folder in its place.

Aja has a software utility for DPX-to-Quicktime conversion. After Effects will also do it by importing the DPX sequence and exporting whatever file format you need. There are also other DPX utilities for Mac.
