A little careful shopping around (Ebay) and you can find a pretty nice Quadro card for an affordable price. Buying something like a Quadro 4200 now will save you having to replace it later. Why spend the $$$ twice?

You may not like my answer, but, I’ll throw it out there, anyway. My kit has several Canon Zoom lenses. I have tried several wireless focus devices, settling on a Cinegear Wireless Focus and thumbwheel controller. The controller is very small, will auto-calibrate to the lens throw, and, has 2 definable presets for focus pulls or Zoom presets. For myself, it’s a great solution because it is transferable to any lenses in my kit. Plus the added convenience of a wireless controller if an AC is available.

DNxHD/DNxHR are native DI’s for Avid.BMD is not. Like it or not, that’s a fact.

Might want to check which nVidia GPU driver you’ve installed. Make sure you’re using the version Avid recommends.

I’m running resolve v11.3 on a MacBook Pro Retina 15″, 16Gb RAM, with nVidia video card. It’s just a simple fact that I can’t run 4K and Neatvideo FX. I repeatedly get “out of memory” warning messages before Resolve quits.I believe the message is referring to GPU memory and not system RAM.

I’m using a 2014 MBP 15″ Retina with an nVidia GPU, for small jobs. However, the GPU rapidly runs out of memory when I start stacking OFX, like Neatvideo. Then I get an error message and it stops working.

Why don’t you take a SMPTE colorbar and a very short test clip from your project, take it through the entire pipeline, then display it on the delivery equipment?

I think you’ve named them all, with the possible exception of Flanders Scientific. What is also important is to be able to accurately calibrate any monitor, for which there are only two possible vendors, Spectracal or LightIllusion.

Here’s what I would suggest:
Get yourself a disk speed tester. Blackmagic bundles one with their hardware products. It works well by telling you where the test results fit relative to SD, HD, and 4K. Start testing your ideas.You’ll find that nothing fits the 4K bitrate unless you’re on an SSD(like the Samsung EVO line) or a RAID(look around over at Highpoint). I’ve found that even internal RAID 0 sets with 6G connection speeds don’t really cut it.
And not to be repetitive, but, this is why proxy editing has been so popular. The only inexpensive way around your problem is to seriously consider proxy editing.

The answer to your question can really be a lot of different things. The systems you tested are probably OK, but, the bottleneck you experienced was the hard drive storage system. 4K requires about 450-550 Mbps, which means you need either SSD’s or a very fast RAID storage array.
Having said this, MC 8.3.1 provides for proxy editing on the timeline. If you experience choppy playback, you can go to 1/2 or 1/4 the bitrate on a proxy to playback smoothly. It really works pretty well, provided you have a fast drive array.
