Unfortunately it isn’t a feature, it’s an error in the way FCP processes the DVCPROHD compression in 4.5 – I tore my hair out trying to figure out a work-around before upgrading.

This was fixed with FCP 5.0

I use HDCam for long & short form and it has been very smooth – great machines! I use both uncompressed (8 bit) and compressed (DVCPROHD) with SDI and both work very well.

Works just fine – all the realtime efx are functional too. FCP supplies a sequence setup, but AJA doesn’t supply a capture setting. You can duplicate/modify the DV50 setting, just change the frame size (to 720×486) and change the compressor to IMX50.

No promises, but it seemed to work fine for me.

    Hi Devin,

When I first loaded FCP5 I played around with the IMX codec and did digitize some footage via SDI, but I don’t remember how it worked. When I get to my office I will give it another try through the IO with the new driver (2.0) and let you know how it works.

I’m still running 10.3.9 (not brave enough to go to Tiger just yet), and all is running smoothly.

It was my impression that using the same scaling process but not the DCT compression (scaled and uncompressed) that Q-Rez would present considerably less compression artifacting than the DVCPROHD codec.

This is the response I received from AJA when I asked about Q-Rez:

“When we first introduced the idea of the Q-Rez codec we were not aware of the Panasonic HD-100 codec. Once that was introduced the need for another compressed codec diminished, i.e. Q-Rez. So we focused more on hardware support for the HD100 codec, which the Kona 2 does have.
As a result of this we have not abandoned the idea of the Q-Rez but have put it on hold pending the development of other features for the card. I don’t have a scheduled release date when we will have the Q-Rez codec available and if the specs will change due to the HD100, HDV and the new Panasonic format yet to come in the later part of the year. I hope this helps.”
