The drives are in Baltimore, I am in St. Louis. We are trying to edit a segment of a larger project here locally without taking the drives away from the other editors.

I’ll try the newer version, if not for this project, then for the next.

Duplicate the layer, select the duplicated layer in the timeline and the new layer in the project window. Alt-drag the new layer to the composition window. It will retain all of the parameters of the layer it is replacing, including time i.e. if the layer you replace starts at frame 100, the new layer will pick up at frame 100 also.

I ended up not changing the sound at all. We open captioned the interview subject so the viewer could understand what he was saying.

I, too, used to do the CMN telethon. One of the best!!

Digibeta is a great mastering format and a DVW-A500 will play back Betacam and Beta SP tapes (a DVW-500 will not). Look for the Analog/Digital print below the tape door. Neither model will record to Beta SP. You can shoot on D-Beta as well, but either DVC or D-Beta will give you great pictures.

As far as editing on a DVCPro, the trajectories (speed) of the cue buttons on a DVCPro deck are much different from any other braodcast-quality tape source. It will take a lot of getting used to. It is also difficult to scrub audio for accurate audio edits (using a CMX).

Filip’s solution is better, but if the alpha layer is not availalbe in Photoshop, you could key it within AE by clicking on the layer and going to Effect>Keying>Luma Key. Set the key type to Key out brighter and adjust the threshold all the way up to 254. You can then adjust tolerance and feather to your liking.

I clicked through the individual channels on the comp window. Red and green showed image, blue and alpha showed a blank white screen.

I converted the movie with the Quicktime Player Pro and it is working now.
