Buzz from electrolarynx
Hello Editors,
We’ve interviewed a cancer patient who has an electrolarynx. It creates a buzz which is then converted into speech by what remains of the throat. In person, the buzz is not very noticable, but when recorded, it is very distracting.
Does anyone know EQ settings which I can use to minimize the buzz? Or any other tricks I can use in my non-linear editor?

If you have a parametric EQ plug-in, play a sample of the buzz in a loop and push the frequency bands until you make the buzz MUCH worse/louder. Now apply a negative value to tat frequency to notch it out. Or you can apply a noise reduction filter to a sample of the buzz, and kill it everywhere there’s a silence.

I doubt very much you are going to be left with a better sounding audio track. The actual voice is this buzzing sound. You would be better off just looping the shot an using a different person.
Or in my opnion live with the fact that this is what it sounds like.

I ended up not changing the sound at all. We open captioned the interview subject so the viewer could understand what he was saying.
