Go to videocopilot.net and click on the After Effects Basic Training banner on the front page. That’s a real good place to start.

Inside the MAXON folder on your HD, navigate to the Exchange Plugins folder. Inside there is an After Effects folder. Inside the After Effects folder, there are folders that will say mac 5.0, pc 5.0, etc.
Choose the one most appropriate to your OS and AE version. I think 6.5 is the highest so if you’re running 6.5 or above choose that one. Inside that folder is a plugin (you may have to unzip it). Copy that plugin to your After Effects plugin folder. Now you should be able to import the .aec files directly into AE.

It sounds like you don’t have your work area set to the entire length of the segment that you want to render. Go to the first frame you want to render and hit “B” on the keyboard. The little blue thing above the timeline should snap over to that. Now go to the last frame you want to render and hit “N” on the keyboard. The other little blue thing above the timeline should snap over to that. Now you’ve defined your work area. If you render now you should get everything between the two blue markers.

Try watching Andrew Kramer’s frosty breath tutorial.

By not reducing the opacity of the breath so much, you should get a pretty good smoke effect. Alter it a little to fit your footage and you should be good to go.

Trapcode Form might be an option too. The particles are already generated and don’t die off.

Actually, I just re-read Matt’s post. I misread and thought you had 30 different projects. Well, anyway, it’s a good method for doing batch rendering if anyone needs to do it.

Well Dave, teamwork works in this case. I don’t know how to do it for text, but I think I can help somewhat on the other part.
Start a new project and call it Master Project or something like that. Import all your other projects that change daily into the master project. Now, instead of opening a whole bunch of projects and making changes, you just have to open one.
Make the changes in each of the projects and send them to the Render Que after you make each change. When you’re done with all the changes you’ll have a whole Render Que of them. Click the Render button and they’ll all render out.
Much better than opening each individual project, making the change, rendering it out, opening the next project, etc. etc.

Select the image in the timeline. Go to Effects>>Color Correction>>Hue/Saturation, check the Colorize box, and then decrease the Colorize Lightness and increase the Colorize Saturation controls. Adjust the amount of degrees in Colorize Hue for different colors.

If you go to Videocopilot, do Andrew Kramer’s tutorial called “Ink Man”. He shows you how to make custom paint splatters in After Effects using Particle Playground as well as ways to bring them on screen.
