This sort of question has been answered a lot here (search words like “rates” and “charge” in this forum), and there are a lot of people on this forum with a lot more experience and business sense than I have, but I give you my two cents…

If you’re in business, the question “what am I worth” depends as much on your clients as it does on your skills. What problem will your video solve for your client? What is that worth to him or her?

So, I’d answer your question with a question – What type of clientele would you like to serve?

I’ll third that opinion – worked in a very similar situation to the OP’s.

Pilotware also does clearance tracking and lots of other stuff.

I’d also look into Final Cut Server, which seems to work cross-platform. I’m not sure if it has a straight up “logging” module, though.

Oh, I’ll agree with your assesment, Ron,(honesty being paramount) – it’s a no-brainer, really…

I think that people will see this as a freak story about some guy cheating to get rich, rather than indicative of how the corporate video industry works…

Here’s my take – this is such an freak situation that I just don’t see it translating into a black eye on the whole corporate video industry. I think the lesson that will carry on from this, if any, is that Wal-Mart’s lawyers screwed up, and that ownership of the footage should be part of any negotiation.

Hopefully, some good comes out of the archive being made public. I like to think that if I was in the same situation, I’d throw it all up on google video for free.

Newtek makes the TriCaster now. But i think the fun factor on the transitions is pretty low – I don’t recall finding any Kiki wipes when I got a chance to play with it.

What I miss is chromaFX.

try drop.io – the site automatically converts uploaded QTs to flash – it’s good for sharing video privately in a pinch, without making a website.

I’ll 2nd displeasure with the site’s aestetics – the allcaps is very screamy.

And the red and yellow color scheme reminds me of a Windows 3.1 scheme named “Hot Dog Stand”.
