I am trying to find the software grab which allows you to take stills of screen shots from the internet but I can’t seem to find where I can download it from can anyone help?

    Actually it’s Applications/Utilities
which is why it might be hard for some to find apparently.

On my OS 10.5.2, Safari 3.1
You can get to Grab with Safari open via
    Safari/Services/Grab
    in the menu bar

Thanks for clarifying!!! That’s what I get for putting fingers in motion before putting the brain in gear.

I’m not sure if this is what you’re looking for but:

On a Mac if you press and hold together the Shift + Apple + 4 buttons then you will see your mouse pointer change, and all you have to do is click on your first point and drag out the square/rectangle to the size you want and let go, it’ll turn into picture1.png on your desktop. You can do this with any thing on the screen, website or desktop or anything that is on your screen.

Right, and control-apple-shift 4 copies to the clipboard.

    I couldn’t live without it.

AND – once you’ve pressed apple-shift 4 and have the crosshair, you can tap spacebar to cycle between open windows.

Its great for saving error messages. and everything else.
