[Chris Waz] “The project weighed in at 297.8 MB.”

That’s massive. I seem to lose stability at over 100 MB.

I’ve had big projects go corrupt a couple of times – they always seem to gain a big chunk of size when they start to go. Keep an eye on the project file size, and it can give you an early warning.

Wow, I just noticed that the FAQ’s done. Maybe it needs a banner ad…

Or, maybe, there should be a brief tutorial when you sign up (or try to post) as a new user – here is the FAQ, here is the search, etc.

I’m just full of ideas today!

[David Roth Weiss] “just a desire to separate the level of questions “

I’ve been reading this forum almost daily for the last three years, and I’ve noticed the same sort of thing recently. I think a few days ago someone finally suggested “hiring an editor” to a poster with a slew of basic questions. Priceless.

All of these very basic questions seem to come from a constant stream of new users. While this is great for the COW, it does tend to clutter the forum. Since it seems that every new user _must_ post in the main FCP forum, perhaps the regular users could help sort it out.

Would it be possible to use the COW “ratings” as a filter for the board? Sort of like the way that Digg works, where the good posts get highlighted, and the tedious ones fall below a threshold and disappear to the masses?

That way people can identify posts that will likely get a “search the board / read the manual” response, 1-cow them (if they don’t feel like responding), and eventually they’ll be hidden? Of course, the mods would still see all of the posts, and drop the appropriate stock answers as needed.

Just an idea. I like the cow ratings, but no one seems to use them….

Are you using SDI? You can’t tweak the digital signal.

I’d recommend the mixdown render first – opt-apple-r

Well, you learn something new everyday… But that seems to me like a lot of hoops to jump thru just to turn Betacam into DV.

An IO gives you deck control, component ins, and your can digitize as DV, DV50, Uncompressed, whatever…

But, I’m glad you other cows were able to provide what the OP was looking for.

If your captures are being capped at 4GB, look under FCP system settings, and be sure that “Limit Capture/Export File Segment Size” is not enabled.

Also be sure that your scratch disk is formated OSX – Extended.

Its impossible to say definitively – if they ask for 52 minutes, then its 52 minutes and no seconds.

Ask your broadcaster for their deliverables handbook. All will be explained there.
