Thanks Joe. Unfortunately I have a bunch of video show-through buttons for chapters. The chapters are automatically made into those video buttons when you link the button to the chapter. This process in Premiere would involve selecting and cutting clips from each chapter, then using a filter to resize them, then line them up and position them, and add a feathering effect. A bit tedious for 27 chapters.

All assets have Transcode Settings. Motion menus are the lone exception. Is there something technological that Adobe can’t get past? Is there something inherently special about motion menus that Transcode Settings couldn’t be implemented? (maybe a DVD spec that limits it to 8mbps?)

I actually used a bitrate calculator before I encoded. The 5.12 mbps average was just right for my 2-hr show to fit on a 4.7 GB disc.

Thanks for the suggestion. I neglected to mention that I have a laptop and can therefore only use external firewire drives. I have a very good setup with these 2 firewire drives, getting 40MB/s sustained read. But anyway, firewire is all that I have to work with. (so let’s discard this aspect in this discussion then)

The 8mbps is one thing I’ve always hated because it’s so high, and could cause compatibility problems. This would be an awesome thing to fix for the next version of Encore, giving the user the option to change the menu bitrate.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. That’s the only way I know too. But I just thought maybe there was a code way to do it, because not all viewers will do what you suggest them to do.

Hmmm. Since all my titles are on the same track, I guess I could create a shortcut key to open Field Options and do that one title after another. But is there a shortcut key to actually select one title and then jump to the next title on the same track? Kind of like “tabbing” to each title along the track?

I had already accounted for audio as well as motion menus and other audio tracks. I had a lot of those, so that’s why I ended up with only 4700 kbps available for the video part only. By the way, you said Dolby Stereo 192 for audio. I actually planned to use Dolby Stereo 128 kbps for my stereo track, and Dolby Mono 80 kbps for my commentary track. Is 128kbps good enough for stereo, and 80kbps good enough for mono speech?
