thanks for the quick response. I think the x1900 is only for PCI-e, and my box is PCI-x.

is there another card I can get?

So, will Color just flat out not work with my Radeon 9600?

For anyone reading this…i have since fixed the problem. I wasn’t able to reinstall QT, but i was able to upgrade my copy of Sorenson Squeeze to 4.33 which seems to address the issue of QT v7.

thanks all for your feedback. I thought this might be a limitation of Avid. If anyone’s interested…here is my workaround:

export the subclip…then import it as a master clip…then modify the timecode to match original footage.

if anyone has a better way…asside from re-digging…let me know

    thanks David.

i thought this might be the case! Guess you can’t please everyone.

when you say that it’s been fixed in subsequent versions…are you saying that this “blurry” issue has been fixed? I’m currently using 5.04…which i beleive is the latest update.

Actually, I am using a monitor. But, nevertheless, what you see on the Canvas is exactly what you see on the monitor. Perhaps i didn’t explain myself too well. I’m just talking about when the clip is parked on a frame and it’s got a green bar above…it’s blurry. But as soon as the clip becomes either:

non realtime (say if I enable “motion blur”),
    or
    competely rendered,

it shows up clear as a bell. It’s only when the clip is “green”, that it’s blurry.

changing any of the playback controls doesn’t seem to help either…safe or unlimited, dynamic or high.

    any ideas?

Shane is absolutely right…however, i’m not sure if this solves your issue.

If you are doing a “film out”, then that’s another discussion.

But it seems that film is a “back-burner” option, and you are trying to make your final product on video tape. If that’s the case, then DVCpro HD may be fine. It’s not the best, but it’s certainly the cheapest.

Also, you will need to find a lo-res setting to edit your film anyway. It doesn’t make sense to edit in full res, unless you have a raid, with tons of gigs to spare. DVCpro HD is pretty good quality, considering the amount of hard drive space it takes up.

I just cut a film on HD-CAM…but the final product was for broadcast. If I had to do it over, I would have used DVCpro HD…it’s not exactly as good as HD-Cam, but a lot cheaper to rent the decks.

  • The problem seems to be this:

you captured your video “squeezed”….that means rather than cropping a 4×3, you squeezed it down. this method of capture should only be used when you want to use Anamorphic, thereby giving you a 16×9 final product.

What you need to do is recapture…using “crop” instead of squeeze.

then you will have a 4×3 finished product.
