August 11, 2020 at 5:16 pm in reply to: Visualize movements in davinci resolve/fusionDid you make the video? If not – look at the shapes. They’re mostly static and pre-made, and just superimposed over the movement. That seems straightforward enough.

Resolve is probably not the tool for this job, though it could certainly do it. Powerpoint or free Impress might be better

Indeed. And actually, using keyframes is easy, and dynamic zoom isn’t.
Click on the clip – the non-razored version, then open the Inspector, top right. Lots of controls will appear. Put the cursor at the beginning of the first movement, set the size or whatever, then click the small grey diamond at the right end of the effect line. It will turn red and you’ve created a keyframe. Now go to the end of the effect, resize and click the diamond again. Play the clip – and then read the manual chapter 31 page 626, unless they’ve changed it again.

Check out free OBS Studio. It’s easy to stream to YouTube from anything.

Strangely, I’ve had to work harder during UK lockdown. Now that I’m old, I voluntarily teach video production for the U3A, where the students are older than those I taught after I left the BBC.
We had just recce’d a minature railway with a view to shooting some films for their website. It was going to be fun – small steam engines, kids riding round, signal boxes, whistles, ice creams – all good stuff. Then we couldn’t.
The course ran fortnightly, and I chose to try to continue on Zoom. I asked how often the group wanted to meet – “Weekly”, they voted. After all, what else were we doing? Therefore, each week, and we haven’t had uni holidays, I have to dream up something new to inform and entertain ten people who aren’t going out.
So – can you make an interesting film in your own home with just a phone and DaVinci Resolve? As it happens………Bernie

April 25, 2020 at 8:43 am in reply to: Seriously though: New Mac or carry on with maxed out 5.1 TowerGiven that Apple look like they are going to dump Intel – I read in The Times – it’s probably a bad time to think of updating. What if they decide to EOL the incredibly expensive new MacPro you just bought and tell you that the even newer MacARM is the only thing to buy? It comes with wonderful new Thunderbolt and Lightning MegaPower (TM) and brand new SuperConnectors (TM), so you’ll be the proud owner of the very fastest and amazingness computer anywhere. And the biggest willie. But you won’t be able to use any of the peripheral gear that cost you a fortune not too long ago.

March 30, 2020 at 1:36 pm in reply to: Capturing HDV footage from the past into ResolveWhen I started a U3A video production group I needed a sensible camera, and blagged a Sony Z1E miniDV, which was excellent in it’s day. I also got a DV deck, an HD 700.
After various tries, I’ve ended up using the HDMI output from the HD700 to a BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle, and using BM Media Express for input. I couldn’t get DVR to see the Shuttle video, don’t know why.

It was a brilliant editor. If it was still around – maybe v15 – I’d still be running it
