I’m back up and working. Thanks a lot Bogie. I thought I did what you told me already, but I didn’t fully replace the drive in replace scratch disks. The Lacie with the glitch was still there with the other drive I added. Once I unhooked the “offline” Lacie and rebooted I set the scratch disk to a different drive and Final Cut loaded. I also did not lose any of my files on the drive that wasn’t reading – a big relief. Thanks.

I have stuck with the Final Cut stop motion blur effect in the video filter menu. I altered the effects blur rate per frame, the amount of overlap, and disintegration. It has worked out very well for me. The motion is very fluid. Once again thanks for all of your input.

I don’t know if anyone is still looking at the post, but I still need help. I know very little about Motion. After spending several hours reading the manual and watching tutorials I still can’t figure out how to do the effect. I want the circle drawn on the floor to suddenly give way and fall into oblivion. I have all my layers down and have isolated the circle from the surrounding wood floor. But, when I try to scale down it shrinks the image while keeping it on the same plane. It doesn’t look like it’s falling at all, but rather just getting wiped from the floor. I need the dimensions to remain the same and have it scale down away from the rest of floor, so we see it going further and further down until it’s enveloped by the dark. Can anyone offer me a step by step process for this? I would greatly appreciate it. This one shot has been a nightmare for me.

Oh, the camera is angled down at the floor, but not looking directly down from above. Don’t know if them helps anyone to have a clearer perspective.

Thanks for the suggestion Bogie, but I have already tried that and it still doesn’t work. It seems like a software issue, because the drive appears on the desktop. I can open it, too, and see the files that are on it. However, when I try to load anything that has to do with Final Cut I get the above mentioned error. I can access my Motion files off the drive, but not any Final cut projects. The program says that Lacie is offline, and cannot load. When I try another drive to access a Final Cut file I get the same error even though I am trying an entirely different Lacie. It’s baffling. I don’t know what else to do.

No, I am not. The HDV Z1 has a setting on it for stop motion animation that tapes for 6 frames everytime the record button is pressed. I moved the objects progressively about 1″ after shooting it each time. As it is now the motion looks kind of decent in all of my shots. I would just like to make them a little more fluid. Thought there might be a something in Motion or some other program that might help accomplish this.

I have already shot the piece by taping 6 frames at a time with a Z1U. I was just wondering if I can make the motion smoother in Motion. There is some effect I found in Final Cut for stop motion animation, but it produces a sort of double exposure on screen that I am not really happy with. Any other suggestions?
