automatic duck may work well with tapeless
only issue I would say is watch out with reconforming xdcam ex and probably the other xdcam, not as well implemented as other tapeless format for reconforming in my experience
i have tried AAF with embedded media and then imported with automatic duck, then transcoding the dnx media quicktimes it creates to something like prores, works well on short pieces.

if I have to wait another moment I think I will have to post a message about why the wait is painful and the chat reverted to this
warhol was right
its all about the banal -
the scaling settings you are doing in compressor look right
look to the last tab for what size it will output and pixel aspect ratio as all you have is scaling algorithmit will take ages though
the quality if its the right aspect ratio will be better than an AJA downconvert, trust me I have done this a lot
the AJA downconvert is good on moving footage but on overly sharpened footage and animation graphics you will see a lot of undesirable aliasing. also there is a frame delay on the picture so you need to offset the audio and picture so they go to the correct timecode and in sync on tape.
after effects has a nice scaler and on newer machines is really fast, download a demo if you need to
check results on a proper SD CRT
remember that if there are broadcast safe filters on the HD these will be useless on the downconverted material as transients are introduced.
your mpeg2 codec is wrong as a starting point, use prores which is a quicktime export.

will be the first to try the new FCPx out, I have to learn it quickly so I can train with it.
what I have listed in this wishlist is what I see as necessary for a product moving forward
If and when these features are implemented is important as getting this new final cut pro to be accepted as not some type of imovie, but instead the product it sounds like it actually is, could be problem.I need to sell this product to people as much as anyone and if it looks silly it wont be good, I however am not one of the sceptics on the forums, I believe it will be a really great improvement on FCP7.
I cannot see the problems many others are making out from the very sneek preview. In fact I cant see much at the moment because I havent actually used the tool.
Adding a wishlist for software when Apple are clearly putting out feelers for what the appetite is at the moment in the editing community is probably a good thing and I suggest others put sensible wishlists to see if they listen. If they actually paid any attention up until now is another matter, the apple evaluations page to me seems very anonymous and feels a bit like helping by shouting over a wall with no reply.
That FCP7 was a real let down is an understatement, it just fixed things that werent working and should have been fixed long ago. FCP has really only had 3 major developments in my opinion, VS1 and the fact it was made, vs3 where the software worked well with DV decks and introduced colour correction and later developments with XML support and FXplug. We have been waiting quite a long time for this version of final cut pro that actually properly uses the OS, lets hope all the things which work well are kept and that we see some essential new features introduced.

use XFAT
works on osx snow leopard and windows 7
supports over 4gb file limit of fat32 and we found copy speeds similar to hfs+

Are you setting fcp to sd easy setup as timeline and then doing the upconvert via the secondary output this is the way to upconvert
Also watch out as there is at least a one frame delay to picture but not to sound to get accurate timecode and picture you must slip all visuals back one frame to get them in synch
Also presume it\’s a kona 3 you are talking about

Not sure if simple enclosures get near to the larger data rates
think something like final share is needed e.g. Iscsi type solution which is more pricey
most cheaper nas boxes I looked at this afternoon appear to work a bit slow for more than a single track of video in a compressed format

was wondering if anyone has much experience with ethernet based RAID disks for reliable data throughput
found this and thought it may be useful
https://www.promise.com/product/product_detail_eng.asp?product_id=211
Ethernet based RAID drive from promiseif you were wanting to online with this imac, ethernet disk and AJA ioHD would it work day in day out is really the question?

we have a syntax box by brickhouse
it seems to do the best upconvert from tests on difficult soccer footage,
compressor does good job but slow and on some frames there were clear jumping ghosts for the outlines. the background footage which doesnt move much looked sharper than a lot of other hardware upconvertors
