Thanks for the Disk Warrior tip, guys.
Dead RAID 0 HD, so Disk Utility told me… and a fair bit of work in progress unbacked up still.
So I paid my $99 and took the chance, based on your good advice.
Well, Disk Warrior had a different prognosis for the patient than Disk Utility did and although one or two files remain permanently missing in action, it took all of about 10 minutes for Disk Warrior to bring my dead RAID drive back to life. Saved me a whole heap of pain.
Thoroughly recommend. 🙂

I’ve never tried anything like that, so I don’t know. I think the structure that AE uses to write a file is a closed book.

As far as I’m aware, no, no and no.
Expressions are really only designed as a way to link things up internally within a project. There are a handful of hacks and workarounds, but generally consider expressions for stuff that works internally to AE and Extendscript scripts for anything that needs to have functionality within the OS or above / outside of AE.

The script could read the external text file and set the source text for multiple layers for you. The script would need to be run from inside After Effects, unless you fancy writing a .aep file parser.

You can do it with scripting, but not with expressions.
Expressions is a rather simplified language in many respects.

You’ve probably time offset the layer in the top comp.
try:
L = comp(“top comp”).layer(“layer whatever”); //the layer with this comp as source
T = time + L.startTime;
this.position = L.position.valueAtTime(T);-Ben.

Strange that texture tags don’t have them though. Although I guess you can override a tag with something else.

Thanks for that Todd. I didn’t know that. But having tried it out, I realised it’s not quite what I’m looking for.
What I wanted was a shortcut that shows the keyframes, but not the expressions on the same property. Hitting U, shows the keyframes and also twirls down the expressions, so I have to go and twirl them up manually.
If I hit shift-EE, though, the same keyframes that I want to see will disappear, because they also have an expression on them.
Would be great to work a shortcut like that in if it were possible. 🙂
