i totally understand the argument. i just dont think someone is going to shell out hundreds of dollars for the rights to a song for a home video dvd. i don’t ever see that happening. Hec, in this world, your lucky if people actually pay for the file or cd they are using.

right, so joe schmo who’s using celine dion music to make a dvd for his mother showing photos of his childhood is going to get the rights to celine dion’s music??

thats not the real world dude. go to youtube. if your talking about a professional film or video, i totally agree with you. but the people at home, using fcp express, imovie, or anything like that, it’s just not the case.

i have lots of friends who are musicians professionally, who would be extremely flattered to know that one of there fans is cutting there home video with there music. guess it depends what side of the fence you are on.

wht your saying is that, if your going to have a party, make sure you buy the rights to the music before you invite everyone over…

i dunno. It’s a debate, i wouldnt worry about it. thats the world we live in. go to youtube, i’m not saying it’s right, but its the way things are going, copyright laws are going to have to be released a bit and made easier. especially for nonprofit type things.

yes, get a release if you can. but if your making a dvd of home video, and u want to add a song, i wouldn’t worry about it.

so unless you plan to make money on this, or distribute it out of your home, jsut burn a cd of it, and re-import it as an aiff.

  • honestly, just dump all the footage to a nice dvd. I’ve done weddings from friends, and the fact that there is even a record, is the best part.

i hate weddings, i hate going to them, i hate working on them when i have too. so yeah, give them a day, do what you can, but realize, people get married every day, its not that big of a deal. if they wanted something uber shiny and nice, they’d hire the guy who does this stuff for a living. (they do it for the free prime rib btw!)

re-burn the song to a cd, and then re-import it into itunes.

honestly, i’ve found hat just syncing them ina timeline, unlinking them, finding the good audio, and just razorblading is the fastest way i know. i cut a lot of “panels” and thats the tried and true method.

i have a stinking suspicion that hd-dvd is going to prevail. what is the last (consumer) format sony kinda won win, 8mm videotape? beta failed, the little discs for the psp failed. plus I heard a rumor sony isn’t allowing porn to be sold in stores on blue ray…so, that’ll make it fail then and there.

anyway, thats my hunch. I’m not going to throw in unless a client wants to pay for it, until then, im going to just wait for the battle to be waged.

i think the cheapest blu ray and hd dvd players are the xbox 360 and the ps3.
