lower your bitrates, or use roxio toast to compress the build folder.

just export it as an FCP movie, and drag it into Idvd…i also believe theres a way to make it autoplay in that program now.

it’s always good, (and i know that its near impossible, if your in the middle of a shoot) to check your tapes while shooting. shoot a few mins, rewind, then use the editsearch to get you back to were you should be.

i do it often, cause, well, im an american, which means im paranoid by default. sometimes you just get bad tapes.

biggest horror story every. my roommate had my canonxl1 over a weekend. his dying aunt came to thanksgiving. knowing he had to interview, he ran to the nearst store he could to get a tape.

    that happened to be.

    radioshack.

all they had left was the

    radioshack brand.

he shot her entire life story, and well. the tape was junk. you can t hear anything, and you can only see the bottom frame. he had no time, cause she had to go back to the hospital.

that sucks, so, yeah, always check a little before you shoot.

in my five years of shooting and editing…

ive had very little issue with tape, and moreso with dirty heads in cameras. i’ve always been told to shoot the same type of tape on “your” camera. ive had great success with maxel, sony and believe it or not, tdk.

are you shooting the audio 48k? sometimes that can cause loss of sync issues.

i do think that if your shooting dvcam with a dsr, its safer to use dvcam stock, maybe moire costly, but theres just costs that unavoidable.

have you thought in investing in a firestore, and bypass tape (other than a backup) altogether?

March 23, 2006 at 8:46 pm in reply to: FCP 4.1 to iDVD5 question

if you can get idvd to build it……you can use roxiopopcorn to compress it to fit a disc…

  • i love my JVC deck….i dont use batch capture often tho….but cause i do a lot of work shot on vhs, etc, its fantastic for that…i can also jack in anything from my betamax deck, my pal vhs deck, anything, and get it to play out firewire directly into FCP!!!

i love it. it also plays dvcam recorded to minidv tape. ive also been known to patch my dvcam deck through it, and capture dvcam cause the firewire on my dvcam deck is wonky. (the place i work at wont pay to fix it, lol) i also patch my dvd player through it too, on occasion.

    i find it very versatile.

just make an autoplay disc in dvdSP…its just as hard to make one in idvd, and it’ll look better..
