    Thanks Chris.

With the budget and distance covered in the shot I think motorized is far above our budget. Any other ideas on a smaller scale budget?

A quick google search for “crowds with after effects” will give you great resources with at least one video tutorial using particular to create a crowd, and others reverting back to the cow using other techniques; such as card dance.

    Card dance tutorial:

    Hope it helps.

CC Light Sweep should do the trick. It’s quick and easy without doing the work yourself. You can animate it across your still and tweak the opacity.

  • I had a similar issue not too long ago. I’m on an 8 core power mac. Every time my machine would crash on the very last frame of my renders. A temporary solution for me was to turn off multiprocessing. This helped me complete my renders until our engineers were able to fix the problem (it turned out to be a network issue with my account). This was my situation…it may or may not help you. But like kevin said, check your version of quicktime and move your prefs file to rule out any bad settings.

Check out Pt. 1 of Eran Sterns Tutorial “Digits Man”. It should at least get you started.

February 19, 2008 at 6:13 pm in reply to: Film a tv, then put a movie in it… in post. How?

I worked on a project very similar not too long ago. We did have a shot where we dollied back (I believe that it will work the same for your dolly move). I tracked the footage using position and scale tracking…surprisingly AE tracked it very well. I applied the tracker info to a null and parented my footage to the null. The movement was dead on. As far as replacing the footage use a mask to cut out the tv screen, place your replacement footage as a layer below the tv and scale accordingly. Then use some of the tips from the tutorials to make it look like a real tv ex (lens distortion, shadowing…) Good Luck. You could even add some random footage on top with the opacity very low to give the effect of the glass reflecting its environment.

    Hope some of this helps.

Sorry if my description was a bit vague….but yes the settings in shatter were set to comp camera and the shatter layer is 2d. Thanks for the link on the second post… I think animating the viscosity is the way to go for now. If there are any other ideas I’d love to hear them. Thanks.
