Adding shine or gleam to metal
Easy question for the experts, but I have a still of a piece of chrome and I am looking to give it a nice tasteful accent to. Without moving the piece of chrome I would like to give some shine or gleam that runs across the chrome that isn’t too distracting-just enough to add a little wow factor.

CC Light Sweep should do the trick. It’s quick and easy without doing the work yourself. You can animate it across your still and tweak the opacity.

one formula i use for that is high-contrasted, stretched out fractal noise with 1px or 2px fast blur blended in with Classic Color Dodge. then just animate the position within the fractal noise. Also, if you want to add glow to just the highlights, try duplicating your image, then using levels to crush the blacks hard. you’ll be left with the highlights which you can then fast blur and set to Color Dodge.
