Well, it would be just like me to run into a bug on a maiden voyage for software, one that makes me feel like I don’t know what I’m doing. 🙂

Hmm. I tried to follow the embedded image tutorial on CC correctly. Let me try again.

    Ah, there it is.

So, I can’t seem to get this to happen again. I started with a fresh storyline, and tried to do the same steps, but I never again saw this blue are of muted music. Everything worked fine. But should I stumble across this again, I’d sure like to know what it is.

There is another way to get still images into FCPX, and that’s through iPhoto. It’s the camera icon you’d click on in the lower right pane of the FCPX interface. If you have 50k photos, it takes a while to index, but once it does, you can drag and drop directly into the timeline.

This method DOES respect the preferences setting for length of still images, unlike dragging a handful of stills from the event library.

What’s nice about this, is that if you use iPhoto to organize and touch up (red-eye removal, etc) your sill images, organizing them by sort order into albums, all that meta-data comes across in this pane, and you can simply drag and drop them in a batch to the timeline, with the durations all matching the FCPX preference setting.

I was searching this forum for an answer to this same issue. I trashed the preferences and the problem seems to be fixed. For how long, I don’t know, but now when i click on different cameras in the viewer, and the grey markers appear in the timeline, when i stop the play head, the marker points become cuts with correctly switched cameras that are sill part of the multiclip, as opposed to what was happening before I trashed the prefs, which was that whatever the last camera change I did before i stopped the playhead, that master clip, not in a multiclip, overwrote the entire clip section in the timeline.

Hope that helps whomever may be searching for this issue too.
