    Hi

I was working on a multicam job which I’ve had to restore and re-edit in FCP7
When I click now on the multiclips in the viewer when running the edit live, it just inserts a whole clip and overwrites everything instead on inserting edit points…if that makes sense
The perils of upgrading a system eh
    Any advise appreciated

You had better explain step-by-step your exact procedure. It’ll also help to know what format you’re working in.

    All the best,

Sorry Tom, I bashed out this message in panic because the clients were coming in.
Now I have got until Monday…Phew
Ok, editing a 50 min multicam edit in FCP V6 my exact procedure was….
Everything set up as normal, open the sequence, double click the pic in the canvas which opens the 4 camera shots in the viewer. Change the viewer setting from sync off to open.
Run the sequence and we are all running in sync….live click the images in the viewer which changes the edit…..except since changing to FCP V7 it doesn’t. For example if I am running the edit and clicking to change the shots a few times, when I stop the edit instead of the new shots appearing in the edit there is just one long shot that overwrites the whole edit ?

Hope this makes sense and is hopefully something stupid I am doing

    Cheers

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Is it possible you have in and out points set in the timeline? I’ve found that happens in FCP 7 when I have those. Not sure if that’s a bug (probably) or some new and clever behavior I haven’t found a use for yet (maybe).

[Paul Jones] “double click the pic in the canvas which opens the 4 camera shots in the viewer. Change the viewer setting from sync off to open. “

Don’t double click the clip in the timeline. Just set the Canvas or Viewer to “Open”. The multiclip in the timeline will automatically open in the viewer.

Hi David….Thanks, in and out points were set in the timeline.
Sure it didn’t do that in V6…but anyway, thank you again.

I recently did a multicamera cut in FCP 7 and found that, seriously, I had to trash the preferences about every hour to keep it running smoothly. Talk about a PITA. My problem mostly was that I wasn’t getting a preview of the stream, just 1 camera, which somewhat defeats the point. Occasionally I would get the error you’re talking about. Kill the prefs, re-open, and be prepared to do so often.

My clips were DVCProHD 720p24pN, so seems to happen with lots o footage types. Hurray upgrades 😛

Not sure what trashing prefs will do to multicam. Are you having playback issues? You might need to give a step-by-step of your procedure, especially what you’re doing when it goes wrong.

    All the best,

How did you solve the problem? I too, can’t play back the different clips of my multiclip simultaneously. When I hit play it only plays the selected clip in my Viewer.
Im my multiclip there are In- and Out-points but I cant delete them.

My workflow was the the following:

    – synced all my takes with pluraleyes
    – created a individual sequence for each camera
    – created a non-selfcontained clip out of each sequence since the source material had different codecs
    – created a multiclip with the non-selfcontained videos
    – draged the multiclip in my timeline
    – double klicked it to open on viewer
    – set it to ‘open’

But as soon as I start playing the multiclip, the selected clip goes to fullscreen in the viewer.

I tried trashing my preferences but it didn’t do any good.

Might it by a codec problem? But from what I’ve read, this never has been an issue with FCP 6.

No one here who might have a solution?
