I have been having the exact same problems….

My issue is a little different as I took “SD Shots” out of an HD video file…. aka the HD feed is 1920 x 1080, the SD equivalent is 854 x 480…. I created 3 new “angles” from each of the original HD steams and was left with 6 streams to do a multiclip edit with. Here’s my specs on the clips and my computer:

Clip Specs: Frame Size: 854 x 480; Vid Rate: 29.97; Compressor: ProRes 422 (proxy); Date Rate: Varies between 1.5 MB/s and 2.0 MB/s; Aud Rate: 48.0 KHz; Aud Format: 16-bit Integer; Pixel Aspect: Square; Field Dominance: None; Angle: each clip is unique from 1-6

    Computer Specs: 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3, OS 10.6.2, FCP 7.0.1

    Thanks for your help!

I was searching this forum for an answer to this same issue. I trashed the preferences and the problem seems to be fixed. For how long, I don’t know, but now when i click on different cameras in the viewer, and the grey markers appear in the timeline, when i stop the play head, the marker points become cuts with correctly switched cameras that are sill part of the multiclip, as opposed to what was happening before I trashed the prefs, which was that whatever the last camera change I did before i stopped the playhead, that master clip, not in a multiclip, overwrote the entire clip section in the timeline.

Hope that helps whomever may be searching for this issue too.

Working in fcp 7.0.3, hackintosh, 6 core.

I had this problem as well. Had three angles, two of which were 720X480 and the last at 960X540. Downrez wasn’t working with the 960 so I ended up uprez’ing the 720 shots.

Prores 422, 29.97fps, 32KHz, 32 bit float. All three files had exact same settings. So multicam should work fine right? Nope.

Same problem as above, would begin playback in canvas with both canvas + viewer open sync yet it would only play the master clip in viewer. Tried turning on button bar for multiclip buttons on sequence but that didn’t work either. Grey markers would appear but immediately disappear when I stopped playback. No cuts. Would switch to which ever shot I last chose.

Funny solution I found, turn RT Extreme on and have your multiclip in the timeline unrendered. Should have the Unlimited orange bar above timeline. Frame rate half, video playback half as well.

This worked for me. Could play the multiclip and cut between my three shots as it played back. Not perfect but hopefully this helps.

    Hi there –

I’m having similar troubles with Multiclip. Even when I’ve set RT to Multiclip Playback and have clicked Open in the Viewer I still can’t get the four clips to play simultaneously. All four clips were converted in Compressor and imported as Apple ProRes. I used Out points for syncing. I don’t know what else to do!

I’ve used Multiclip for many projects and have only just started having this problem. What a pain.

    I’m using FCP 7.0.3 btw.

Many thanks in advance for the help!

The most likely culprit in all this is in the RT pull down menu left side of the timeline. Make sure Multiclip Playback is selected.

I think this applies to editing as well….

I know this is super old thread. But just in case someone(like me) still encounters this problem. Delete your render files for the project or find another way to unrender. Should go back to normal.
