Hi, me again;).

Is there a cheaper option, I think that is 50x more expensive than the H2;).

A stereo pre-amp with 1/4″ jack or XLR in and phono or 1/4″ jack out would be perfect.

The reason I posted the question is because playing the SD file on my computer looks mutch better than it does on YouTube and HD on YouTube is defenatly better. The other strange thing is Windows Media seems to produce better results than Sony mp4 (for SD). which really suprised me.

Do you have more details (weblinks). I have been looking for a comparative test of the MKE 300 and Rode VideoMic but could not find one. This sounds like ecelent news as the MKE 300 was an excelent budget mic and retailed for around £140.

The Sennheiser MKE 300 is a great mic. They don’t make them any more but you can pick up one in good nick for around £80. They are a mini shotgun. I once sold a interview to local TV in the UK done on one of these so if its good enough for broadcast in the UK is must be OK.

I actually ordered a SWISSONIC MDR-2, the SWISSONIC MDR-4 is actually a unbranded PalmTrack which Sound On Sound gave a favourable review apart from the build quality. From reports I have heard the MDR-2 is better built and has 2 1/4″ jack inputs with level knobs for each.

I will post a mini review when I get it.

There a quite a few HD camera formats in the Render as list, one of these should be good. You may finds the format your camera used. They tent to list the resolution/frame-rate etc. Choose one of these that matches your needs.

I would rather use EQ than noise reduction filters (at least initially) as this should bring out the voice without changing it too much. From what I can remember Noise reduction works best if you have a fairly uniform noise like a hum. people walking around etc.

I did Google for Vegas EQ but just got lots of Vegas Studio related stuff. I will have a play around with the audio filters when I get home.

Is Zoom H2 recording 2 stereo pairs/4 tracks? 2 front 2 back?

I totally appreciate what you are saying, I would be happier not to have a internal mic and they spent there money on main unit.

Yes, Zoom H2 seems good. I also came across the Alesis PalmTrack which is a more expensive branded version of the SWISSONIC MDR-4. There is even a SWISSONIC MDR-4 which is a 2 microphone version.

The Zoom H2 is around £130, the Alesis PalmTrack around £100, SWISSONIC MDR-4 around £74 and the SWISSONIC MDR-2 £64.

The main difference between the H2 and MDR-4 seems to be the H2 can record in 5.1. This is nice but as I was looking for a 2 channel unit is not going to sway me. All the reviews I have seem indicate good sound quality throughout.

I think I am going to go for a SWISSONIC MDR-4 as Omni recording could be useful and its only £10 extra. As I am normally plunging a sennheiser 44P into it the build in microphone quality is not really relevant.

I am hoping not to have to also use a mixer as I am a 1 person Crew normally.

Thanks, I recently got quite good results with a single ME66 a couple of meters from a singer guitar player pointed at the mouth. This seemed to bring out the vocals but still record the guitar. It was on a boom at 45 degrees. I am however just a beginner.
