  • [mark wilson] “MacPro users, what do you what in it?”

    1/ more slots….

  • TWO more PCIe 16 lane slots would make my day (and then I would want more)…

I think you mean FCP Legend, for which, a car crash ending is most appropriate.”

I think it was more of a “murder” or “assassination” that has given it martyr status.

I have been using these Voyagers for a few years now without any issues.
In fact I quite ofter use 2 as a software raid connected via esata.
On a macpro there are some spare esata ports on the motherboard I extend out to the front using the unused 2nd DVD drive slot.
Only problem is that these motherboard esata ports are not ‘hot swapable’ so a power down/restart is required.
But I also have a 2 port raid card in one of the slots which IS hot swapable.
I also use the Voyagers for working with shows delivered on hard drive that need work. And the FW800 port on them comes in handy when working on my MacbookPro where I am using the Expresscard slot to run the Matrox MXO2
    I don’t know about any cooling issues….

And to add an update – edit to tape (HDW1800) occurs 1 frame late and leaves a black hole of 1 frame. That means that the playback start is 1 frame late as it is the deck that is doing the actual edit from the timecode the Avid sends it.

If you are using the latest (or near latest) Avid use AMA import.

That will allow direct usage of prores without converting.

  • Maybe this has something to do with the long GOP structure of HDV and XDCAM? Its probably going to the closest ‘I’ frame to retrieve the frame info. Just an educated guess.

[Lynette Gilbert] “One 30-second clip captures at almost 900mb.”

That equates to uncompressed YUV which is normal.
Have you considered capturing in ProRes which would be only 185mb
Even ProRes HQ is only 273mb.

  • Have you got both track selectors engaged at the left side of the timeline?
