Hi everyone – I need some guidance here. Since getting a new computer at work about two years ago, FCP captures at this incredibly high rate. It’s ridiculous, and I keep running out of room on my computer. When I first got the new computer, I mentioned to IT that the files too large, but they know nothing about either Macs or video, so they were like, it’s fine, and wouldn’t help me. But I’m fed up now because I keep running out of room, even with small projects.

    We are using custom settings.

Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz
Capture Preset: AJA Io LA: YPbPr SMPTE/N10 8-bit NTSC 48 kHz
Device Control Preset: AJA Io LA RS-422 NTSC (This is my only option for AJA Io LA, when before, I had several other options for my AJA Io LA.)

    Mac Vitals:
    Mac OS 10.6.8
Processor 2×2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory 8 GB 10gg MHz DDR3

One 30-second clip captures at almost 900mb. I have tried configuring our setup about 20 different ways, and this is the ONLY way that captures.  However, it used to capture at a much smaller rate.

So – is there anything else I should be looking at besides the capture settings? Because like I said, if I configure it ANY other way, it doesn’t capture.

    Thanks!

[Lynette Gilbert] “One 30-second clip captures at almost 900mb.”

That equates to uncompressed YUV which is normal.
Have you considered capturing in ProRes which would be only 185mb
Even ProRes HQ is only 273mb.
